Parts of the dub that was better then the original

I personally liked the Dark Kingdom background music much better in the dub. It sounded a lot more creepier. Like they were a bigger threat that way.
And, the music they played when it was the destruction of the Moon Kingdom...Beautiful. Favourite piece of music from the dub series.

I thought the song "It's A New Day" which was played at the end of dub episode 40 was better than the song that played in the Japanese version (whose name slips my mind at the moment). The lyrics and the catchier tune seemed to fit the scenes better to me. Also, if I remember correctly (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this, since it's been a long time since I last saw the dub), in the episode where Ami was going away to Germany, in the Japanese version when the people ate Berthier's ice cream, it just made them really hot, but in the dub it made the people hate each other. For some reason, I kind of liked how Birtie's plan went in the dub version more than the original. It sort of made more sense to me, given the romance theme of the R season.

I totally agree with you on that because when I heard it for the first time it made me cry on how the music was playing in the destruction and the deaths of Usagi and Mamour.

More things I like about the dub than the original are the episode titles. Some of the Japanese episode titles were dead giveaways to what was going to happen in the episode like, "The Sailor Soldiers Die! The Tragic Final Battle!" and I didn't really like that all that much, but the dub episode titles had more creativity to them to me. You have to admit that an episode title like "Food Fetish" is just awesome. I also kind of like how they reversed the ages of the Four Phantom Sisters in the dub so that Catsy was now the oldest sister and Prisma was the youngest. Somehow their dub ages made more sense to me...

I agree with you 100%. I did NOT like the fact that the Japanese titles were dead giveaways.

I agree that the BGM is much better in the dub. In 3rd grade my friend Isabelle and I would hum the tunes. And then in the Japanese one, they are all "Saaaaailor Mooooon!" and we'd laugh about that.

I think making Fish Eye a girl was a pretty good idea, except the episode when they leave her flat, manly chest hanging out. They kind needed a girl on the Trios team.

And also I like the name change of Naru to Molly. Because Naru makes me think of Love Hina (GREAT ANIME!) but it's very unlike Sailor Moon...and I love Molly's New Yorker voice.

I'm also IN LOVE with the song "The Power of Love"! The English dub "Promise of the Rose", was the first Sailor Moon thing I ever saw. When I was in 3rd grade I rented in, because I couldn't find anything I wanted. I watched the movie 4 times that night. I couldn't get enough! It was so good! It's still my favorite episode by far! "My Only Love" and "Rainy Day Man" are also GREAT songs. In 4th grade Isabelle and I made a dance to "Rainy Day Man" and performed infront of the school.

I really think that the english dubs are great. That might be because I haven't seen too many of the orginials, but the worst part of the dubs is the awful slang and some bad voice actors.

I know that this topic has been quiet for awhile, but I thought I would throw in my two cents ^_^

As much as I prefer the original over the dub but I will be honest and state some things in the dub that I believe was better han the original.

-The part where Zoicite said something to Nephrite about poisoning Sailor Moon's lemonaide. I thought that was hilarious.

-Remember the one scene in "Too many Girlfriends" (forgot the Japanese episode title) where Mamoru and Motoki were talking about Usagi's feelings? I know some of you prefer the original but I literally can't stop laughing at the English version.

-I'm sorry but when I first saw the Japanese episode where Princess Serenity and Queen Beryl has finally reached the pennicle of the competition and started to have their final battle I was expecting an awesome battle music that would sound encouraging and sad at the same time. Nope, they've played the Sailor Moon full theme song =p I mean look... I DO happen to like the theme song, but I don't think it suits the battle between the two very much. So I've watched the English dub version of the battle again, and decided to say that I believe that "Carry On" suits the scene more then "Moonlight Densetsu."

Hmm... I guess this is it so far.

OK, I need to use qoutes to explain my reasonings:

Dub: (This is where the scene is better)
"REMOVE YOURSELF REMOVE YOURSELF!"
"NO! I won't do it!"
*Mistress 9 starts to groan in pain*
"I've got...I've got...*GASPS* I'VE GOT PEOPLE I CARE ABOUT A LOT!"
*Mistress 9 gives a scream full of pain and that's it!*
I just liked it better. The voice acting was so good. And more dialog. That really gave it a plus than its Japanese counter part. I don't think the two voice actors put enough effort in the Japanese version. Too bad this and two other things were the only good parts in the Cloverway dub. The other two:

In the same episode when Neptune goes "It's the end...". So powerful! Oh, and the other one: Mistress 9's laugh was WAY better! It sounded SO evil.

In the Japanese version it made her seem so child like.

Call me crazy, but I actually sort of like how Pluto screams out her attack name "Pluto Deadly Scream!" in the dub as opposed to her whispering it in the original. To me, it seems to make more sense that way. It keeps it consistent with the rest of the Sailor Soldiers who all shout their attack names loudly and the attack is called Dead SCREAM, after all. It doesn't make sense to me why you would whisper an attack called Dead Scream. You might as well just call it Dead Whisper, then.

I always thought it was becuase the dead are basically silent. If the dead scream, yo udon't hear it. *shrugs*

once in a while there was a line in the DUB that I loved a good example is in the episode of the first season when Serena wasa pretending to split with the Sailor Scouts in order to lure the negaverse into a trap.

The line is when they were fighting and she said "Ok you're not allowed to use my butt for practice kicks."

That line cracks me up.

I like the fact that I don't have to read subtitles when watching the dub; they can really distract from the action on screen.

Seriously though there are a couple of lines that I like in the dub:

"What are you going to do? Poison their Lemonade?" -Zoycite (not sure if this is an exact quote).

"No fun getting toasted..."-Serena.

"Taste the fire of the Negamoon!" -Rubeus (I wish I could use this line in life).

Also I like a couple of songs in the dub better:

I think My only Love was better then Maboroshi no Ginzuishou. The melody was simpler and more memorable, and almost has me cry when I hear it, very rare that a dub song can evoke such a raw emotional reaction.

And Carry On (at least the music) was better then Moonlight Densetsu for the final confrontation with Beryl. (Why did they originally have a song about love play at that moment anyway?)

My Only Love is appropriate for the scene (MNG is too soft and quiet) but I think Maboroshi no Ginzuishou is a great, beautiful song by itself. It almost made me cry when I first heard it, and it's not even sad! And of course, the general consensus now is, of course, that Carry On fit the scene better than Moonlight Densetsu. Truth.

Myself, I love Anata no Sei Janai; it's lyrics fit the scene oddly well considering it was released before the episode's airing (I think) as in "It's not your fault...It's the fault of the rain that started to fall". Beautiful. And plus I like the song because I like that old-sounding stuff (which is why I like MNG) and because of Shinohara Emi's singing voice, the best of all the seiyuu.

I love The Transformation music... for both. I actually didn't know they were different until I skimmed through this thread but.. okay. The chanting really gets me pumped (It makes me laugh... Sera MooooN..)

I think alot of the Dub music is corny but sweet. My Only Love has a very nice melody but I think the vocals could have been better. (I always wanted that song played at my wedding as a little girl

)

Ai No Senshi is opne of my favorite songs so I prefer it over We Got The Power (That title makes me think of Dragonball Z...)

I LOVE Moon Revenge (More than Ai No Senshi) so I automatically prefer it over anything. I do have a special place in my heart for Power of Love, being the first Sailor Moon song I memorized

As for voices... Well. I don't really give a damn. It could always be worse and it could always be better. No ones perfect

I have yet to see the final battle of Classic so I can't say much on that. I think Carry On is a nice song. It fits well and I've heard it makes a good battle song (I can imagine it does..)

After watching a few dubbed episodes recently (I love you, YouTube!), I can say that I generally prefer the dub background music. It's often peppier than the original.

I much prefer Malachite's voice to Kunzite's voice.

UPDATED OPINION

I just watched about 60 seconds of dub episode 79 "Brotherly Love" and I'd now like to comment on the voices

Ami/Amy-I really understand now the difference. I never realized how much better she sounds in R.

Makoto/Lita-I've always loved her voice in both and my opinion remains the same.

Usagi/Serena-She sounds... very different than I remember her but I never had a problem with her voice.

Rei/Raye-She sounds very high pitched in this season. Did Rei's VA change? I've always remembered Rei's voices and I never remember it being so high...

If I remember right, Rei had a new VA for the 17 "Lost Episodes", ofwhich "Brotherly Love" was part of. I think the VA was the one who voiced Venus in S/SuperS.
