Japanese Versions
Alright, since my last topic was locked, I looked at some of the others about where I can find the DVD's, and I still haven't found anything about the English versions. I noticed that the general opinion on here is that those versions aren't too great, but I'd still like to buy them. And for everyone who doesn't speak Japanese but watches the subtitled Japanese versions, are they worth buying? I've never really watched anything with subtitles before, so I don't know how confusing it would get. Again, I'd appreciate any help, thanks.
Re: Japanese Versions
When I first watched Sailor Moon in Japanese, the only word I knew in Japanese was "Sayonara", and I really enjoyed the subtitled version. I don't think the subtitles are confusing at all as long as you can read at a good pace. What I like to do is read them quickly and look solely at the picture sometimes, or others just look at the whole screen. It's not hard to comprehend subtitles while watching the picture at the same time ^_~Ashley wrote:And for everyone who doesn't speak Japanese but watches the subtitled Japanese versions, are they worth buying? Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....
Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

Check your local HMV or Best Buy. They have lots there. Or even go to a comic book store to buy them. Since the DVDs are now out of print, you may not be able to find them. It is worth a try though. If that fails, go to Blockbuster or Roger's Video. They should have some DVDs there. If they don't, they'll probably have VHS tapes. Is that okay? I remember when I was a kid, I used to rent these really crappy tapes that only had select episodes on them. There were only two episodes per tape and they came in really ugly hot pink boxes with shiny foil on them. It's been so long though, I can't remember which company released those. However, ADV did release some much better tapes in 2001 with four episodes per tape. Keep your eye out for either of those. They'll likely be used, but since Sailor Moon isn't as popular as it used to be, it probably won't take much convincing to get the store to let you buy them.

I'm gonna have to agree with Celexa. I do find the subtitled versions worth getting. I hardly knew any Japanese, and frankly my vocabulary in that language is still limited. Still, it's an awesome experience to be able to watch it with the original music and voices. When I started, it took a while to get the hang of watching and reading, but after a bit it became second nature to me. It can really develop your ability to read quickly and comprend.
I do wish you luck with your search and if dub is your thing, then I think that's cool too.

I like both the dub and the Japanese versions of Sailor Moon, so I think that either way you'll enjoy it. The Japanese version takes a while to get used to with subtitles...when I first started, I had to sometimes pause to read them. Though if you can read at a good pace, you shouldn't have a problem keeping up with the skills to both read and watch the show at the same time. If you can't do that very well, you'll either have to make out the gist of it or switch to the dub.
