Actually, she did recognize her as the same Kaorinite, she just told herself that it couldn't possibly be her because the Kaorinite she had fought with had died in battle. The entire thing was affirmed later when Kaori took Hotaru away near the end of Sailor Moon S.

This is something that always bothered me. In Sailor Moon R when Chibiusa first appears, she tells Usagi, that if she is Tsukino Usagi, then she has the silver crystal. Did Chibiusa know all along this was her mother? The anime doesn't make it clear, and it also seemed odd for her to be so shocked that the girls were the Sailor Senshi, when she knew they had the crystal. I can't even explain it as clear as I'd like to because it just makes my head spin! Can anyone explain this? Or was this just a major screw up on someones part?

I always thought Chibiusa doubted Usagi. I mean, she's almost nothing like the mother Chibiusa knows. Maybe she felt that she made a mistake? Maybe she conviced herself Usagi must not have the crystal?

Actually I'm not too sure myself now that I think about it. x__x

I think the best thing to keep in mind here is that Chibiusa is a little girl, so if she was told anything, it was only bits and pieces of information, and she would have drawn conclusions from the little she already knew. They explain later in the series that they used to tell her stories of Sailor Moon all the time, but I'm guessing they never told her who Sailor Moon really was. I'm also guessing that when Sailor Pluto sent her back, she told her to look for a girl named Tsukino Usagi. Chibiusa was never actually told by anyone to come back with the Silver Crystal, she wanted to do that on her own. She might have come to the conclusion that Usagi had to have the Crystal on her somehow. She, like many others in the series, never made the connection immediately that Usagi was Sailor Moon, and that coupled with the fact that almost everytime Chibiusa was around the Sailor Senshi, she was upset about something and wouldn't have been thinking about it otherwise. She might have been surprised to learn that Usagi was Sailor Moon, but if she was told all of the details of the story, then she would have also known already that Sailor Moon was her future mother. While it's true that this may have not been hinted at in the course of the show, they also didn't hint at her ignorance to it, either. Or at least that's the way I think of it.

Sorry if anyone has said this or meant this (I dont think anyone has) but I think that Chibiusa knew her mom was Tsukino Usagi and so when she assumed that when she found a girl named Tsukino Usagi, then it would have to be her mother and have the Silver Crystal. Maybe she didn't know her mom was Sailor Moon. She just heard stories. I havent seen a sub of R so I don't know if she knew her mom was Sailor Moon so maybe I'm wrong.

I've always thought it was weird that CHibi-Usa didn't know he mothers real name...

I mean, Usagi probably went by Serenity or something by that point but still... Usagi and Serenity look EXACTLY the same...

I mean, her mother's name was Usagi. Chibi-Usa is short for Chibi-Usagi, and she JUST so happens to find a girl from the past named Usagi. Not to mention the matching odangos. Wouldn't you think she would have made a connection, eventually??

I'm amazed you guys are so surprised =P Come on, this is the same world where peopl ecan't recognize a guy behind a narrow white mask, or a girl becuase she suddenly has a short skirt and a tiara. XD

LMAO. That is a great point! I should've thought of that when I started the Chibiusa/Tsukino Usagi discussion!

Well, it has already been speculated that the Senshi are unrecognizable when transformed.

But with Chibi-Usa... I just think it's wierd that she couldn't figure out she and Usagi were related somehow. Even the senshi speculated that Chibi-Usa was related to Usagi in a way. (I seem to remember them thinking she was a relative from the Silver Millenium?)

Also, the reason Chibi-Usa came to the past was to retrieve the Ginzuishou, right? Well, in the future her mother had it. Don't you think after she realized Usagi had the Ginzuishou she would have made a connection. Plus the hair, the sailor moon thing, the face...

LMAO. That and I always thought Chibi-Usa had a hard time believing that clumsy, clueless, semi-selfish Usagi was the same person as her mature, loving, powerful mother. Even after she finds out, doesn't she still not completely accept it and kind of see them as two different people?

That and maybe Usagi's a common name and she thought it was a coincidence :P

Usagi means rabbit is I remember correctly. It's on several name sites (those websites where they tell you what your name means..) but I wouldn't think it would be overly popular. At least not until after the mid-90's.

That makes sense... Also, the fact that Chibi-Usa's parents were both... well... unavailable probably pre-occupied her mind to much at the time for her to think about certain possibilities.

Another thing I've wondered about is how come Chibimoon has the silver crystal when she comes back in the S season.
Didn't Crystal Tokyo need it to be protected against enemies ?
I don't think the people there would want to be exposed to another invasion and give Chibiusa the crystal so that she can have "Pink sugar heart attack". lol

I don't think she did have it. They never say she does, do they? The only thing that might make one think that is the crystal in her SuperS brooch appears to be the silver crystal, but I really don't think she has it.

It isn't the Silver Crystal (at least, not in the anime; I can't speak for the manga). It isn't clear what powered her transformation brooch, but remember that Usagi's first transformation - also "Moon Prism Power, Make Up" - was also carried out without the aid of the Silver Crystal.

I don't think she had it in SMS. Though, doesn't she have it in her Crisis brooch? (Though that could be just some crystal..)

In the manga Chibimoon always had the silver crystal, from the Death Busters arc and on.

That makes sense too but Chibi-usa also said in the S episode where she returned that even in the future Neo Queen Serenity was still a terrible cook that couldn't read kanji and that future Mars had told her lots of stories about her mother's clumsiness. And even if she couldn't believe that Usagi wasn't her mother, wouldn't she have at least suspected Mamoru was her father? Endymion and Mamoru aren't that different from each other. Hell, the only real difference between Endymion and Tuxedo Mask is that Endymion doesn't wear a top hat. And when they went into Chibi-usa's nightmare to save her from the Black Moon, why didn't any of the Sailor Soldiers notice the resemblence between Neo Queen Serenity and Usagi when they were standing right there in front of her?

Another thing I don't understand is why was it abosuletly neccessary to send Chibi-usa back to the 20th Century to find the Silver Crystal. Couldn't she have just time traveled a few days into the past and stop herself from stealing the Silver Crystal? Wouldn't that have been a whole lot easier and faster? Since Sailor Pluto apparently knows everything in the past and future, why couldn't she have at least told Chibi-usa where the Silver Crystal was located at in the 20th Century? And why did Chibi-usa need to have all the Inners with her when she first traveled back into the future yet every other time where she's traveled back to the future she was able to do it alone?

Oooh... good one.

I've always thought (or rather assumed) that they knew Chibi-Usa would eventually become a senshi so they sent her back in time to kinda test her out. Just an assumtion though.
