I don't get why almost all TV is aimed towards men. I mean, I buy much more TV related merchandise than my brother. And I own a crapload more anie than my brother, but I have to buy my shoujo anime because you can't find any on TV :( That saddens me. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Cowboy Bebop fan and I enjoy 'shonen' titles, but I love my magic girls ... damnit.

I'd have to say that I am very displeased with the dub, but I can't say that I totally hate it. Yes I prefer the subs over the dubs, but a I still like the dub because I wouldn't be such a huge anime fan without being exposed to it. I mean, not all dubs the worst thing to happen to anime. There is a wide range of dubs that I like/love and I prefer to watch over the original.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! To be fair, it wasn't Cartoon Network's fault that Sailor Moon "died"; despite DiC's best intentions, their attempts to gear the cartoon even MORE toward the young man's demographic fell flat on its face (I say MORE, because I've read that the producers of the show geared it toward a more diversified demographic than the comic). Guys didn't react as well to the show as they did to the action-packed Dragonball, and despite the feelings that a few well-wishers and anime-lovers may have toward Sailormoon, American kids crave action and the like; that's why you don't see much shoujo-anime on Toonami these days. </off-topic>

Probably because in all technical aspects (with the excaptions of SMS and SMSS, and for a week and a half the movies), Sailor Moon no longer exists. The license for the first two seasons ran out this spring, so there is no more first two seasons in North America from a legal standpoint.

I definitely agree with this. For anyone who's seen the original Cardcaptor Sakura and then the dubbed version, Cardcaptors, it is also a fine example of this, and like Sailor Moon, it was shown in syndication, then it moved to Cartoon Network, and then it died.

As for me, I wouldn't be a crazy obsessive Sailor Moon fanboy if not for the Dic dub. Before I got on the internet and found out about the various changes, I loved it, and honestly, there's still a few things I do like about it, such as some of the music (I actually liked "Carry On" and "My Only Love" better than the songs that played in the original), and it probably turned me into the anime fan I am today.

If it wasn't for Dic cutting off at that episode "Follow the Leader", I would have never ended up searching for Sailor Moon S and finding it, what is now one of my favorite anime series. :)

So I will say this with complete seriousness: thank you, Dic.

Off-topic: Actually, Cardcaptors didn't "die" after it moved to the Cartoon Network. They only aired the first 17 episodes because they were doing that "trading shows" thing with the Kid's WB, then the series returned to the Kid's WB and they aired new episodes, all the way to the end. After all the episodes of Cardcaptors finished airing on the Kid's WB, they broadcasted reruns for a while, and then the series went off the air. Sorry for going off-topic here, but everyone always says that Cardcaptors "died" when it didn't die; it finished. ><

Oh wow...I didn't know they actually went all the way through. That's suprising. Thanks for that info...I thought it had just died like SM did...but now I won't make that mistake anymore. :D

:hates to be off topic but...: Their's a rant over at Dogasu's Backpack (The Uncensored of Pokemon) that talks about the whole WB and Toonami thing. It's under rants and is titled "Kids' WB! Threatens Anime". The one above it is a follow up titled "Kids' WB!'s Toonami" :/offtopic:

That sucks. So does this mean the VHS's of the first two seasons are going to go out of print?

Not going to be, they already are. March 31st was the last day those two seasons exsisted in North America, there haven't been any new copies made for three-quarters of a year now. Anime speciality stores did stock up on the DVDs to make them last out longer (the rights expiring means that nothing new can be made, any copies still sitting on retail shelves don't have to be pulled), but I don't know about the dubbed VHSs as they're hardly used anymore. If you want to find those, I'd suggest anime specility stores online for new copies, and ebay for used ones.

Also, the Blockbuster Videos around me each have one or two of those VHSes on their rental shelf, and I doubt it'd take too much convincing to let you buy them.

Which is your opinion. It is hers that the dub attack names are worse.

The point is that they took attack names that are already in english, and turned them into alternative english attack names that are sometimes seemingly random in their nature and origin.

Thanks DiC, for releasing Sailor Moon into English, and for increasing interest in the Japanese version (even if it was because many fans found the dub to be horrid).

And both thanks and no thanks to Toei: thanks for making the wonderful series, and no thanks for being hell-bent in denying the existance of the series ever coming to North America, and refusing to let ADV and Geneon extend their contracts.

Amen. Yeah, they might have done a disservice in the beginning, but they brought a lot of interest into the show to fans who wanted to know more, and look what happened: ADV released a sub-par, but much more accurate, English translation of the first two seasons in the form of the boxed sets, and Pioneer/Geneon acquired the liscense for Super and SuperS and produced a decent pair of boxes on their own. I say, if it weren't for DiC bringing the show over, not only might we have a ridiculous American-made live action show called "Sailor Moon" (Toonmakers ><), but I'd be willing to bet that interest in the original cartoon in the States (and elsewhere where DiC's version appeared) would be half of what it is now - and I think I'm being generous.

Also, I'd like to thank DiC for introducing me to the show for another personal reason - my fiancee and I met on an internet newsgroup because we were both introduced to the show through the English version *^_^* So thanks :)

Thank you DiC, for bringing Sailor Moon to North America, and saving us from the horrors that could have been. I don't think any of us here could say that the Toonmakers (also known as "It's not SABAN!!1one") adaptation is preferable to the DiC dub, regardless of cut scenes and supper-happy-fun-epileptic-cat-tap-dancing-on-a-synthesizer background music.

Thank you DiC, for gaining the show enough popularity so that Cloverway would pick up S and SuperS. Thus, giving me the opportunity to be a fan of this wonderful show.

Thank you DiC, for giving me something I can laugh at, something I can roll my eyes at, and the "talent" joke. Most of all, thanks for making SMU possible. Without you, DiC, I would have to find something else to be snarky about. And I'm just too damn lazy to do that.
