Complaints from the Japanese?

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Thu Sep 23, 2004 10:34 am

I read online the other day that when the first season of Sailor Moon finished its run in Japan, a lot of parents complained about the ending. Somehow I find that difficult to believe, but can someone clarify this for me? Did the ending to the first season of the Sailor Moon anime really recieve complaints from angry parents in Japan?

Yea I think it was just a rumor. Why would parents be so upset anyway? It's not like all the Senshi STAYED dead.

Maybe it was after episode 45? I could see some confusion about their being upset after all of "Classic" ended, but I can also see parents being upset at the rather brutal deaths of their kids' favorite characters.

It was in the interval between 45 and 46 - lots of upset parents called TV Tokyo and TOEI to complain that their kids got upset that their favorite characters got killed off. It's been several years since I heard anything about this, but a few reputable sources on alt.fan.sailor-moon confirmed it way back when. (98-99ish)

IIRC, all the complaining stopped after 46 aired the following week.

And episode 21 of Sailor Moon said that kids loved that kind of exiciting ending....And I have been trying to remember alt.fan.sailor-moon's name for ages Ni-ban! Thank you for reminding me! This is a little off-topic, but that was where I first found out about Japanese animation. ^^;; Now the only thing I'm wondering is if Toei received complaints about the ending to the first season of Sailor Moon, what made them go with the ending to Sailor Stars? Weren't they taking a huge risk there? o.O

If I recall correctly, wasn't the producer upset with the character because of how she was handling the ending to the series?

A. Considering how poorly the ratings were doing, and B. that the manga was almost over by that point, if not already finished, I don't think TOEI had anything at all to be worried about.

good points, but I would've liked to see SM continue after stars. see the Senshi all become eternal, and all be even. sounds incomplete that in the manga the whole team becomes eternal, and in the anime only moon becomes eternal. kinda bums me out.
I appologize for offending anyone. I regret the wrongs I have commited, and am deeply sorry.

The Senshi didn't become Eternal in the manga. Crystal Power Make-Up was used throughout SuperS and Stars. In fact, I don't think they ever had anything added on to their names.

I saw manga scans of the senshi weilding the eternal level of power. genuine official manga scans. ya cant argue with that.

They may have had fukus similar to Eternal Sailormoon's, but they were never called Eternal Sailormercury etc. or even Super Sailormercury. Moon and Chibimoon recieve the Super titles, and Moon recieves the Eternal title.

I saw those color manga scans, and in fact, Naoko put then senshi in their eternal forms for the manga covers, but that doesn't mean they actually become eternal senshi in the manga itself.

Raptor, I own the Stars mangas..all of them. They are NOT called "Eternal Sailor Jupiter", etc. They have higher powers, and henshin using "Crystal Power, Make up", just as Parakisu said.

They do NOT have the title "Eternal" the way Sailor Moon does.

Exactly what the others have said. From what I know, the 'super' and 'eternal' titles are only titles added by those of the fan base, not Naoko herself.

[pointless boasting] I own Vols.1-12 in Japanese [/pointless boating] ~_^

Maybe Mixx called them that in their English translation? I haven't read their English versions of Stars, so I don't know.

Ahh, okay. I heard somewhere that Mixx used some fan terms along with their subpar English version so I thought they might have used it there. Thanks for clearing it up ^_^

thank you starscream. we should be back on topic, I blame myself for drifting off topic. we're moonies here, not predators. still, I saw some images with the senshi clad in ball-like shoulder covers, and wings on their fukus when in battle. it was an elegant shot I saw. very nice. oh yeah, if you go on google, go to the images area, and search "Sailor Jupiter", one of the images will lead you to a site where the Senshi are in wrestling matches, BAM! Sailor Jupiter just atomic dropped Black Lady! OH! the Jupiter Supreme Power Bomb, this match is over, 1... 2... 3! sorry, I got a lil wraped up in the images of the match, you would too if you were a Hogan fan since infancy!
