Ummm ... forgive me for reving (sp?) a dead thread, but I could not help to notice that the picture quality in my copy, well, is somewhat perfectly fine. Yes, there is no grain, only some *little* scratches, but they don't appear much. The colors are rich, and it's *somewhat* very clear. It's WAY better then the screentshots used for comparing the episodes. I'm really nothing lying. The audio, well, is pretty much the same, except that it sometimes sounds normal or the same as Pioneer's. Either ADV is secretly fixing them, or that it's like this because I ordered it from ''Deep DVD Discount''.

Personally, I could care less about the video and audio quality. Poor sound and audio quality do not really bother me as long as the tape or DVD is still watchable. What does bother me, though, is the quality of the translations. I've read that, apparently, the translations are pretty bad. For example, I read that when Sailormoon is supposed to say she is the pretty sailor-suited warrior, she says she is the Champion of Love and Justice, just as she does in the dub! I would get the R boxset in spite of the video and audio quality but knowing that the translations aren't that great really bothers me. Could anyone give me an idea of how accurate the translations are?

Hell, you don't even have to bother with the sending and all of that. The lovable Best Buy is selling it (Classic) on line for $79.19. R goes for $91.99. I love Best Buy. I mean, they have the Dirty Pair Flash Perfect Collection-3 DVD's- for $27.99. It wasn't even on sale. The retail price for one DPF DVD is about $30. Now that's a good deal.

Steven,

You must take note that the Japanese have A LOT of different translations. I happen to own a bootleg and legeal copy of Gamera 3, the translating is pretty good, until one line. It's supposedly to say ''Is that your death I hear, Asuka?'', but in ADV's DVD, it says ''That, is death, Ms. Asukua''. Yes. They are indeed different indeed, but it does mean the same thing, if you look at it from a point of view.

Oh yeah, I agree with your post.

I just looked at R today at BestBuy.com and I was so happy the price went down. Not down enough though. By X-mas, maybe it will go lower? I hope so. Are the box sets being sold the ones that are fixed without the dub voice laugh of Usagi?

I do agree that ADV (or the stores) should mention which version they have in stock, the old version or the fixed version.

ADV should do what CPM did with the remastered Slayers set last summer. The remastered set had some problems, they fixed them and CPM had stickers put on the fixed ones and had a good program for the people who got the bad ones. I doubt ADV will do anything through, they don't seem to want to admit they made any mistake, was probably reluncant to make the exchange program for R, and considering that there are a lot of people waiting to hear from ADV on either set, I don't think ADV cares enough to do anything like CPM did.

*Nods* while good audio and video quality are important, to me, it's not the most important. If it's watchable and not so annoying that I can't stand it, it's fine. I care more about translations, because I want something as close to the original as possible.

Well that's another minus for me. Mix of dub and sub terms throughout episodes and the episode guides are another turnoff. In my eyes, ADV failed completely in satisifying their customers with this release.

Oh well, I do hope they do indeed do it.

:x
Oh, you would be surprised. Hey Sailor Soldier, I have the DVD set. It's ok, but sometimes you have to adjust your TV to make the video quality better. I don't really have much of any issue with the audio, I fixed it in my computer with iDVD (Mac OS X program). The video was a real issue, and I highly doubt that they'll release a new set, unless a new company buys the rights, or the get a new "Signiture" set out like Pioneer/Geneon (Geneon is just the Anime part of Pioneer). It's not worth $149.98, I'd pay no more than $70.00 for this, but unfotunantly, i got it before I had the chance :(

That is just so right, I don't even know why they're not doing it! :? Besides the disc-return service, they're not doing anything about the crappy release. :( Even if it is Toei's fault, they could at least lower the price by the end of this year. They know (some of) the fans aren't happy yet they keep the same expensive price.

I have yet to see other boxsets at a retail price of $150! Even Fushigi Yuugi is cheaper than this.

I noticed that to. They put "Crescent Moon Wand", "Champion of love and justice", and plenty more dub phrases. I agree with you, I'm very dissapointed. I only guess that it was because that it was rushed release, so they didnt fully translate the episodes. I really hope they, or someone else will release the R1 DVD's of Sailor Moon Season One Uncut again, so I (We) can get something that we've waited over half a decade for (Since 1995) in good quality.

I highly doubt that they will even bother with another release. And what made it a rushed release? There weren't any deadlines besides the fans right?

I've never once seen the phrase "champion of love and justice" in the subs. However, they did mistranslate the speech - it says "sailor warrior of love and justice" instead of (for example) "sailor-suited pretty warrior of love and justice".

This release was anything but rushed. July 2002 they announced getting the rights and made a comment that production was already underway. About nine months later In April 2003 they gave a date, and ADV doesn't give dates until a product is finished. In my view, they have nothing to hide behind, they had more than enough time to do cut and paste jobs for the pre-episode sequences, look over their subs and episode guides much more closely, and most importantly, get better masters. I don't know what they did in that nine months, releasing the box the way they did with an obvious glitch on top of all that really makes me wonder. Knowing ADV's reputation for having quality releases and all, as well as seeing the time put into it, I was really excited. Now with this and other ADV releases in 2003 having problems, I'm starting to become wary of purchasing anything from them again.

MarioKnight wrote:Eh, I for one, don't recommend purchasing this set. While the video quality is fairly tolerable, it will be the worst in your collection, not to mention it will have poor audio. The only real seller to this product is the very nice packaging. If you can live with the poor quality of the DVDs they contain, then you should go for it. If not, then I'd stay away (though I'd personally stay away anyway to not support this bad release).

Edit a couple minutes later:

If you want to hear how bad the audio is, go to http://demaagd.com/anime/dvdbugs/s.html#smoon1 and hear for yourself. It also has clips of the same scenes from the original LD release to compare from and see just how bad the release really is.
That's very weird. On my DVD set, the Audio was good, i had no problem with it at all, except on episode 6 and 8. Maybe the audio and video quality varies on each set... because some people say that their video is good, and some people say their audio is bad... but this is just a suggestion. And i agree to not support this release, until a better one comes out Sailor Soldier, I'd stay away
