Should or I should not get the DVD box-set?

The amazing anime that this site is dedicated to.

Blondie
I hear ya sista! I'm too from B.C. Canada...and I've been debating on whether or not to fork out over $150 bucks at Future Shop for the damn things! I wish they would become marked down so badly...there's still our option of buying online though...check out my earlier post about rightstuf.com....
They still have them at Future Shop and online? Weird because everywhere else is sold out of them, even Amazon.ca recently said they're out of stock of the boxsets (although they lasted longer than I thought they would there. They were still available for about 3 months).

O/T but, if you don't mind me asking, where are you in B.C?

I'm actually from Vancouver. And I haven't checked Future Shop recently but, yes, they still had them there. But you could be very right...they may not have them anymore. Which is so sad!
Blondes really do have more fun!

I have the complete second season (R) on that dvd box set, and I love it. There are unfortunatley, no extras, but I'm ok with that, and the quality is great. I love it.

MOD EDIT: UsagiIce, that link was entirely too long, and it caused the forum to side-scroll. Please use the text url option for long links such as that (all you have to do is run your mouse over the URL button to figure out how it works. I've already done this one for you, but keep that in mind for the future)

I just got the first season dvd uncut! my thoughts...

Post by Mattio » Thu Aug 05, 2004 3:21 pm

I just got it in the mail a couple of days ago and I immediately popped it in my ps2 to watch (i hooked the two sound things up to my speaker system)...

I love it so far. Its strange how it seems like its such a completely different show. Just the atmosphere of it! At first I wasn't completely used to it, but now I can't imagine watching the english one!

Now one thing I'd like to discuss here is the quality of these dvds. I find NOTHING wrong with them! After reading reviews on Amazon, I was kind of nervous to get it. The picture is not dark and wobly. The sound is not so low that I have to turn it up really really loud. I think they did a terriffic job on it! I do wish they would of had some japanese artwork on the covers, but hey whatever!

The special features were lacking, actually it was lacking them overall, but I dont care about that. I can get special features on websites like this!

So I'm wondering, did I get a newer version of the dvd, or are the fans WAY over exaggerating on the quality?

Aren't there several threads talking about the ADV DVDs already?

Post by Mattio » Thu Aug 05, 2004 3:46 pm

yes I just found that out. And also I just read the editorial on the site about it. Well we can still talk about it right!

I heard the sound differences on the editorial. Yes it does sound A LOT worse. But I dont mind it.

If there are other topics dicussing the ADV Boxsets, then use those. It's pointless to have people repeat themselves when you can simply add to a pre-existing discussion.

I can't locate a discussion thread about the boxsets, but I know I've read it so I'll still be searching the site. Until I do, the thread will remain open as a valid discussion topic.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I found a thread, and merged the two. So go and read all the posts, then feel free to add to them. I'm always up for a good debate on the boxes, though most of my points are already made in this thread, but I do have a few saved up.

thanks Mario, I didn't want to have one up if there was already one.

Now kid! (you are 13, I remember when I was that age and getting into sailor moon). BUY IT! Believe me! You will not care about the audio. If you've never had the fan subbed version, then you wont know the difference. I never had the fan subbed, so I didn't know what everybody was talking about. It is definately worth it.

BUT! I really suggest buying it online from here

http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catal ... 722/4/0/0

I dont have a credit card so I just sent in a money order. Money orders are easy to get, you can get them from the post office or the bank for like 1 buck (the price might be different).

Compared to buying it at best buy probably at 149.99 its better to go with the 49.99. 100 bucks off! thats great!

Unless you want to spend your allowance.

Also one last thing, about shipping, I sent it out on a monday and got it on the next monday. Pretty fast!

Hope I helped you out!

I read your reviews on it.

YOU ARE SO DAMN PICKY!

that tiny little scratch on the screen on the episode was NOTHING! It was 1 second long and not a big deal!

I laughed when I went home and watched it to see what you were talking about! hahahahahaha.

Good job on your review, very well written, I love them.

A lot of people didn't like the flaws they found, and they are entitled to that. I myself disliked the sound quality. It was far too low, and I had to blast my TV to hear any of the dialog or music.

To some people, it may be a big enough problem to avoid buying the DVDs.

Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I just find it very amusing. Yes of course, thats why they remaster the sound of movies, for the people that want it to be perfect!
No problem in that!

Also, adding to what Tiff said, the quality compared to the fansubs/laserdiscs/Japanese DVDs were SO much poorer that it's not worth it to buy the set when you have unofficial fansubs that are a hop skip and a jump above the official release. It's up to your own preference whether to get them or not.
