The power of Sailor Moon

Post by Mattio » Fri Jul 23, 2004 4:05 pm

Im not sure if anybody ever posted about this before but here it goes.

Of couse we all agree that Sailor Moon in Japanese is 1,000 times better than the English dub. But I've notice that when I watch it in Japanese, I actually get excited to watch the transformations, the attacks, the scenes that are done over and over in every episode.

But when I watch the dub, I find myself fast forwarding through it.

Maybe its the voices the music, i dont know, something about those scenes are very cool and powerful, like they were proabably inteded to be.

Topic moved from comparisons to Sailor Moon forum, as it had nothing to do with the sites comparisons.

I know exactly what you mean, I'm always excited to watch the transformations in the Japanese version, but I'm so bored with them in English. I didn't think there was enough of Usagi's Stars transformation, it got shafted, as did the other girls SuperS/Stars transformations. I agree with you all the way.

Same here. I enjoy viewing the attacks and transformations more in the Japanese. It's definitely the music for me. Even though CWI kept the music, it's faded and you can't hear it as well.

The henshins and attacks have gotten so old for me that I really don't watch them at all. Except, after the "Things you just notice" thread, Mars's. ^_^ Same thing with the eyecathes. I love that the Geneon DVDs have a chapter break right after them. I wish they out them after Sailor Moon's finishing attacks too.

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I almost always fast-forward past Moon's transformation/attacks. They're just so damn long, and the least interesting of any of them, imo.

There's such a big difference in almost everything compared to both versions. Even though i've seen more of the Japanese Sailor Moon episodes rather than the English dub I still watch the transformations and the attacks unlike the English dub since it's very poorly done. The only SM fans who maybe like the English version would be the ones who've never seen a Japanese episode before.

I also agree. I enjoy the attacks and henshins more in Japanese. I think the music in the Japanese version is catchier than that of the english version. Also, there's better picture too.

I actually liked the transformation music that DiC used during Serena's transformation sequence in the first episode. They changed it in episode two, sadly, but I always watched that same scene over and over again because I loved that music. I actually liked that music better than the Japanese BGM, but I do find myself watching Usagi's transformation sequence in Sailor Moon R over and over again a lot. ^^

I always skip Sailor Moon's transformation in both versions, unless it's from the first season dub. For some reason, I really like that transformation song. It's probably the only dub song I like.
I always watch the attacks in Japanese, but never in English. The delivery in the dub is just...horrid. And the consistency is bad.

Anubi: I just saw Mog/Terra hentai.
Kari: XDDDDDDDDDDDD
Anubi: My life is snow scarred.
Kari: ooooo, snow
Anubi: Oo, fun.
Anubi: SNOW SCARRED.
Anubi: WHOO.

I also favor the Japanese ones over the dubbed ones. :D For some reason, the dubbed versions seem to me a bit...blah. :? I also like the vocals in the Japanese version. To me, they don't sound cheesy at all and it shows that they put at least some effort into recording the serie's musical score.

I've never actually seen the whole Japanese original version of Sailor Moon. I've only seen the R movie, the SuperStars movie, and the last three episodes of SuperStars in Japanese. I'm gonna see Sailor Stars soon. I used to like the English Dub transformation and attack music, but, I agree with my friend(I won't type her real name here) Crystalspirit, that the English Dub music is cheesy. For Super and SuperStars, CWI loosened it up if you guys know what I mean. Oh, by the way, when I posted my intro, I was twelve. It was a few days before my birthday when I posted that. Gomen nasai for the confusion.

Don't you mean the Super S movie and the last 3 episodes of Sailor Stars?

I think she means SuperS. It doesn't stand for Super Stars, it's just more than one Super. The final s is capitalized just for style. SSM, You're not the first to make that mistake. ^_^

I knew that whole bit of SS, I just sorta of got confused with that other bit there. I wasn't sure if she was talking about SS or Sailor Stars. Your idea does make more sense ^_^

You need to watch how you joke around here. You cannot say these sorts of things, becuase others may not realize you're "just joking around". WATCH how you speak to others.

Do not reply to my statement again. If you have any more questions, PM me.

That's not necessarily true. I love the Japanese version much more over the English version but that doesn't mean I don't like the English version. I know the same goes for at least 3 of my friends (my female friends, the guys won't admit they like Sailor Moon one way or the other but I know they watch :D ). I'd actually buy the Classic/R dub only DVDs if I had the spare money right now. But between my anime/manga/video game/D&D hobbies there are many other things that have higher priority.

I bought the R movie recently and watched it in English since it's been so long since I've seen the first dub cast. I used to have the R movie dubbed on VHS and it used the same music as Classic/R dub. The DVD is uncut so the animation is not messed with, nor is the music. It's strange hearing the original cast with the Japanese music. I wished they had the original version of the dub that they had on the VHS tape instead. It's not the same hearing Moon Revenge instead of Power of Love on the dub! The Japanese version was wonderful though. :D
