Complete SM R2 DVD release schedule

Post by MarioKnight » Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:37 pm

http://www.toei-video.co.jp/DVD/sp21/sailormoon.html

It looks like Toei is finally going to be releasing all of Sailormoon out onto DVD. From the looks of the schedule, starting with the first SMR DVDs this September. They'll be releasing every episode through the end of Stars. If they are faithful to this schedule, the entire TV series wil be out by the end of 2005. ^_^

I can't wait till all the DVD's come out :D . Even though all the DVD's will be released by the fall of 2005, it gives us all something to look forward to buying!

About a year or 2 ago i actually found and downloaded the whole of Sailor Moon R series (japanese) which was really lucky for me to find since it's so rare to find series like this one, but i lost it because of some virus which really made me angry

Looks like Episode 67 may be on Disc 4... (can't confirm it though)

...looks like Toei's excuse for having it left out was a lot of bunk.
You seem like the kind of person who'll lie.
However... this sword doesn't lie.

R2.... Does that mean this is state-side, or strictly in Japan? I can never remember which country has R1 and which has R2.

R1 is USA. R2 is Japan and I think the UK? But, this Sailormoon release is in Japan.

Edit:
If you look on that page and click on the arrows for the first season, you will come to a page with images of the DVD covers, DVD labels, as well as 2 small screenshots of the menus. Also, it seems each DVD has a special collectable. Here is what I have been able to get out of the Japanese. Please confirm for me!

Classic:
Seal (?)

R:
Mini Note

S:
3D Card

SuperS:
Cleaner(?) Keyholder

It seems there is a box for each season. However, it doesn't say that for the first season. I guess the first season box was a limited edition? That's pretty weird though.

Yes, the UK and Europe is on Region 2 like Japan. The only difference is Japan uses the same TV standard thingy as America (NTSC) and we use PAL (I think France uses SECAM, please correct me!) But most TVs these days can cope with NTSC so you should be able to watch it no problems. ;)

This looks really good! I would love to see Sailor Stars in high quality, even though my fansubs are very nice. Looks like they are putting a lot of episodes on each disc, which is very nice of them!

Since DVD 4 says is has episodes 65 - 69, and not 65 - 66, 68 - 69, I think it's safe to say that episode 67 will be on the DVD, especially since from that DVD onward, each of the DVDs will have five episodes.

Also, it was ADV's excuse about the episode, not Toei's. Toei never said anything in regards to the R1 releases. A comment ADV made caused a lot of speculation and rumors and such, but nothing was actually confirmed from Toei, and the inclusion of episode 67 on the R2s leaves ADV's excuses regarding the Japanese for not including the episode untrue. However, let's keep this thread on discussion on the R2s and stop on the R1s right now where there is already ongoing threads about them for discussion.

It's my assumption that all the season boxes will be limited in number made. I recall this since I'm very sure I heard that the first season box was limited. Since the first season DVDs have already been releases and the boxes sold out, there's not much reason for the first season box to be listed since consumers won't be able to find it anymore. The boxes for 2 - 5 are listed so people know that they're coming out and can look for them upon release. That's my guess at least.

I really want these R2s, but really can't afford them right now. I think I'm only going to buy the last 2 DVDs + box of each season as they come out and get the rest when I have extra money. If anyone knows where I can get my hands on a season 1 box and would let me know, I'd be most grateful. ^_^ Even if it's just the box itself, I can worry about the actual discs at a later time.

Just to clarify, are these R2 releases of the series going to be available in the USA or are we going to have to go through some DVD distributer in Japan and order them over the internet?

Either way is fine by me, I would just like to know.

I managed to get the SMS and SMStars DVD box sets from ebay, I think they are bootlegs or something from the original Japanese laser disks. Not sure but my SMS box set has graphics similar to the Geneon series releases that were here in the USA. My Stars box set looks like the multitudes of bootleg DVDs which are amply available in Asian markets (or your nearest Chinatown), the quality is not too bad though.

I caved in and bought the ADV box sets from SMC and SMR when I heard they were going to stop selling them here.

However, if these new R2 releases are any good I will buy them and sell my current copies on ebay.

Hi everyone, I'm new! I want all those DVD's sooo bad, besides S and SuperS because I own DVD's of those already, and I think pioneer did a good job! I might buy one from each season for kicks, but not the whole thing. But I want to buy sm, smr and stars really bad, especially since they are remastered! I have vhs of those seasons, and they have pretty good quality, but I wanna get the DVD's. I'm saving my money to get the ones they've already released of the first season, but I think they are already going in to OOP status, it seems like everything in Japan goes OOP so fast! Or is it just me?

Nope, they won't be available officially in the USA. You can use online stores to buy them, preferably Amazon Japan and YesAsia. However, the retail price in US is around $38. They don't come with subtitles either, however the quality should be far better in comparison to many of the US releases so far.

As for your bootlegs bought from Ebay, they are bootlegs. Your S boxset is just a direct copy of Geneon's S season release. And your other bootleg is just..a bootleg. The R2's DVD quality should definitely surpass those.

That really annoyed me when they kept on repeating Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R cause obviously it did get boring watching the same episodes. viewers actually thought that there was no more episodes to Sailor Moon after the R series. But that's what happens when episodes are repeated viewers just get bored and the broadcasters who view Sailor Moon have to take it off.
All I can see on the link is the writing in Japanese even though i've installed a japanese language pack :S.

Yes and this is a pain in the neck though I see if happeneing with the other good anime to. Its a shame the British TV Industry does not seem to cater for english anime fans. The Japanese have it a lot better than us. I just watched the final ep of stars and I have to say that was a brilliant series however I see very little chance that it will EVER appear on british tv along with S and SUper S. Sad But True.

Not necessarily, even though it's R2, they will only be released in stores in Japan. So even if you're living in UK, you will have to buy them like everybody else who aren't living in Japan: mail order. Or if people have Japanese DVD rental stores around them, you can go check them out to see if they have it and then you can rent them and then you know the rest...

I think I read somewhere on here where aDam said he has subtitles. I'm not sure if he has the R season though. You might want to search his username "aDam" on here and send him an email (he doesn't come to SMU very often that's why). I also read that Aya_Reiko have been subbing her first season R2 DVDs so you might want to PM her as well.

I envy you all who are actually ordering these DVDs. I just can't bring myself to shell out $200+ for all the DVDs of one season when they don't have subtitles.

Yer i seriously dealt that they will show anymore episodes here. They stopped showing them about a year ago I think maybe a bit more. I Think the Japanese version of Sailor Moon is much better anyways, that's my own opinion by the way.
