Rei's Family

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Tue Oct 21, 2003 8:02 am

Ok, so, we all know that Rei has a flirty Grandfather, right? But, what about the rest of her family? Where's Rei's parents? And her grandmother? What kind of girl would go for Rei's grandfather? Anyone have any ideas?

Rei's mother died when Rei was very young. She doesn't like her politician father that much, but she still goes to TA Private Girls school because he wanted her too. Nothing is said on her grandmother or other relatives, but she does have a cousin who is an artist that lives in the mountains.

Maybe's Rei's cousin is Michiru? That would explain why the two don't get along. ^^

^^;; You see Rei's cousin in Sailor Stars. without saying enough to spoil, it's also a guy. I laughed my ass off at that episode.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

*nods* A little. The only difference is you can see his eyes more clearly.

Not sure if it was a spoiler to some or not, so I put tags on just in case.

LMAO I crack up during that episode too...that guy's a trip.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

In the manga, Rei's grandfather wasn't lecherous, and probably actually had had a wife.

He didn't look like a shaved monkey, either... like he did in the anime.

Do you prefer anime Grandpa Hino or manga Grandpa Hino? I'm a little torn, but in the end I'll have to say anime because he's a lot, lot funnier in the anime. ^.^

Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Actually, that's probably true. In episode 10, you can see a clip of him leering at a man.

That one episode with Rei's cousin actually made me cry,
especially when young Rei gets the small pendant from the cousin, then sees it again later after the cousin becomes a youma.
Actually, I was quoting it from the Japanese version. Rei herself mentions it in the episode where she first appears.

I rather like both versions of Rei, but the manga has always been very interesting. Grandpa isn't a lech, but a very respectable priest and seems more like someone who could raise a granddaughter without needing to be whacked with a broom. Her mom died when Rei was young (you actually get to see her picture) and Rei's father is a politican. From what it sounds like, quite successful, but never has time for Rei except on her birthday...sometimes not even then. Rei is the quiet type and because of the sorrow that she's experienced she doesn't want to marry and have children. She did have one romance, but the guy was a jerk and frankly, I think she should have used Flame Sniper on him for it. Most of this is found in the bonus story about the Rain Tree music box in the 11th volume of the manga.

*nods* this is what I have been thinking about through this whole thread. Thanks for the title, though! I couldn't remember what it was called, and all my manga is at my mom's house.
