Favorite incarnation of Rei?

Post by HighC » Sun Mar 08, 2009 1:49 am

Can't speak for PGSM but between the dub, the original, and the manga she's almost a completely different character in each version.

I'm going to have to go with manga Rei because she's sophisticated not rude. Also having her be a man-hater set her apart from the other Senshi, in the anime she's no different than Usagi or Makato when it comes to guys. Though I do like the Usagi and Rei relationship in the anime. Dub Rei (Raye) is just a b*tch. It's like the dubbers wanted us to hate her especially in the first season/

I think I'm gonna go with Rei from PGSM. In terms of personality and such she's like her manga counterpart, but in PGSM her character is more developed (which seems to be the case with the other characters), such as her relationship with her father. Otherwise I'd choose the manga Rei as well. I also agree with HighC about her relationship with Usagi in the anime. I really liked that. And yes, dub Rei was bitchified. I won't bother mentioning Sera Myu's Rei because the musical's characters more or less show traits from both the manga and the anime.

Im going to be the different one here lol, I like anime Rei better than her manga and PGSM counterparts. I like anime Rei the best because her character is alittle more dynamic and I find it funny she's always bickering with Usagi. Ofcourse my opinion maybe just because I saw the anime before I read the manga, and seen all the anime where I only read alittle of the manga, so Im just going with what Im used to.

I like anime Rei best. Although she is more sophisticated in the manga, I find that she has more personality and is more realistic in the anime.

Also, I love her and Usagi's relationship. The fact that they're always arguing and fighting, when you know they got alot of love for each other. I also like how everyone calls Usagi, Usagi-chan, and she just calls her Usagi. To me it makes them close.

Can't forget about the Stars scene too, but now I'm getting off topic. Anime Rei for me.

I like PGSM Rei best. The actress is cute and her character is neither as annoying as her anime counterpart nor as boring as the Manga version. The conflict with her father is really fleshed-out there and her vaguely yuri-ish relationship with Minako is great.;)

I love Anime Rei's relationship with Usagi and with Yuichiro, but I hate her boycrazyness, the dating Mamoru thing and her vanity.

Manga Rei doesn't annoy me but I just find her generally uninteresting. And I hate the Rei/Jadeite picture because it spawned dozens of badfic. >_<

I enjoy both Rei's anime and PGSM personalities equally for different reasons. I like how Rei has the same personality from the manga in PGSM but it's more fleshed out and I like how we learn more about her family life. I also love her friendship with Makoto and her rivalry with Minako. At the same time, I also love Rei's friendship with Usagi and how in spite of their arguments, they're still close friends and are there for each other when it really counts. I also love Rei's relationship with Yuuchiro. Manga Rei is ok but she's kind of boring and she doesn't seem to ever get any real character development. I haven't seen enough of Seramyu to have a real opinion about her in it.

why does so many people say that Rei and Minako had a lesbian thing between them in PGSM? I didn't get that vibe at all, I just saw them as rivals with an underlying deeper understanding and comradery for each other. :?

For some reason it irritates me that people tend to interprete two people of the same sex that have "tension" or care for one another is more than that.

But any way, Rei was never my favorite senshi for some reason, so I never felt that strongly toward her. Except maybe annoyance. Even though I haven't read the manga from what I've read about her on sites dedicated to the manga I think I like how that version best. Other wise since I've seen the PGSM I would pick her.

Because she cried and screamed "MINAKO" when she died.
That, and the manga phrase, "We don't need men" reinforces the Rei/Minako ship.

How does a line We don't need men reinforce the Rei/Minako ship? Rei's a man hater in the manga she would say to any girl.

To go along with what HighC said, how in the world does screaming her name suggest anything other than that Rei cares about her? If one of my close friends or someone I really looked up to died, I would certainly feel like crying and screaming their name.

Unless "Minako" is Japanese for, "My lesbian lover just died." Which I don't think is the case.

OH MY GOD. SHE SCREAMED HER FRIEND'S NAME WHEN SHE DIED. OF COURSE THAT MAKES HER A LESBIAN.

Seriously? seriously??

Oh, and Manga Rei is the biggest man-hater I've ever seen in my life.

My god, one suggestive artbook picture doesn't equate a lesbian relationship.

Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Especially since aren't they usually just for Noako to have some fun and not actual canon? Like when she drew the Senshi together with the Shitennou. In the actual manga the furthest that went to being canon was Jadeite mentioning Rei's beauty (I'm pretty sure Usagi and Luna also mentioned how beautiful Rei was) and I think the Sailor V Mana implied that Sailor Venus had a thing for Kunzite but that's not saying much with the Goddess of love.

God, I hate the Shitennou/Senshi speculation. ONE PICTURE, PEOPLE.

I am seriously considering siging what you said. You're right though, but those are the frequently cited the shippers use. Why? I have no idea. I guess people see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear.

this is how a lot of bad fan fiction gets written. A lot of Yaoi fics are based on even less evidence then the Rei Minako thing is.

Personally I prefer Rei with Usagi and I will (If Im feeling silly enough) cite evidence from the anime for it, but I know its not really there. Unfortunatly a lot of yuri/yoai fans take it personally if you disagree with them even politely.
