I believe that the problem was that, from what I saw, someone posted on September 10th, but the forum index still said the latest post in that forum was September 6th.

Basically it didn't report the new post.

I didn't ask what had happened. I already knew. Tiff explained it to me. I was just thanking Dan for working hard and fixing the problems.

I know what the symptoms were, explained by Tiff and here. I can't tell you exactly what the problem actually was, but I can only give you a guess given my limited PHP knowledge. I'm guessing it was a database problem since it negated thread creation and froze the post count. Specifcally in the tables dealing with posting, since the registration related tables in the database seemed to be working fine.
As I said, My knowledge in the realm of PHP is very limited. Dan is, like, 1000 times smarter than me in PHP coding.

Tempy, Rattleman's not asking what was wrong with the forums...he was just re-quoting Musashi's post and explaining that that was the one he originally meant to quote the first time (it's fixed now) ^^

Actually it was a bunch of various things. That was one, another was the inability to make new threads, as well as the post counts just freezing completely.

And Suzie is right, the problem was in the database tables themselves. Not sure what sparked it to initially happen, but they're in working order again and everything is working as it should now. At least some good came out of it as I finally did some needed upgrades to the forum software that I had put off for a while now. ^^;
