Avatar size increase?
Since everyone's been real good about anything regarding avatars lately, as well as me thinking that an increase in them won't affect too much, I think that an increase in size and filesize of them can happen. I've talked this over with the rest of the staff, who seem to agree, so I'd like to see the views of the members of this board before going through with it. The changes I'd like to make are:
* Increase max avatar size from 80x80 to 100x100
* Increase max image filesize from 6K to 10K
The size increase since 100x100 seems to be the new norm for forums and blogs, and the filesize increase to help suport this and provide better quality images. This may or may not affect load times and visual effects depending on your connection and resolution, but I don't think it will be too big a deal overall, though I obviously want to hear your thoughts. Please be sure to vote in this poll and post any thoughts.

I think it's a good idea. It's really nice of you guys to. There was nothing wrong with the 60x60 rule, but it's hard to find avatars of those sizes on the net anymore because, like you said, 100x100 has become the norm. I'd so go with it.

*sigh* I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I just got all my favorite av's down to 80X80. On the other, 100X100 would make some of them look much better. I voted for the change, even tho it means resizing all my avs again.

Just about all of the good avatars I see and like are 100 x 100, and when I take an avatar that size and shrink it to 80 x 80, it looses a lot of its quality. I think it would be really nice of you guys to incease it to just that size
Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....
Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I do think the size increase is a good idea too, simply because the quality can then be much better.
Though, there's one thing I wonder: if the avatar is below 10kb and if it's really small and animated, is it the same thing as a 100x100 10kb avatar ? I'm asking this cause I remember reading in the rules that animated avatars are not allowed :p (not that I really care anyway, I was just wondering... teehee, I'll be able to use many more avatard if the size does increase... yippeeeeee
) .

I voted yes. Even though my connection is as slow as molasses in winter, the overall loading time wouldn't be increased enough to bother me. As long as signatures remain image free (you don't know how much I love you for that), I think 100x100 avatars are a great idea!

A good image editing program to get is GIMP, which stands for GNU Image Editing Manipulation Program. It's free, very easy to use and not made by Microshaft. I used it to crop and resize my avatar from this. It only took me about a minute to figure it out.

Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you''ve got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

Out of curiousity, how long will this voting thing be in affect before you make a decision?

I use Irfanview, and some other people on here do, too, because they suggested it to me. It's how I made my avatar. It's extremely helpful because it lets you shrink filesizes, which is more of a problem (to me) than actually making the SIZE of the avatar acceptable.A good image editing program to get is GIMP, which stands for GNU Image Editing Manipulation Program. Probably until Monday evening/night-ish. Tonight is cleaning my room night after I catch up on today's posts, Saturday and Sunday is the big DDR tournament in Syracuse, Sunday evening is cleaning night at the bell, and then after that me and a couple of my co-workers are coming back to my place to drink and hang out, so probably after work Monday. That's really the first time after tonight I'll be able to get on the forums, and it should give a good amount of time to have many members vote.peachvampiress wrote:Out of curiousity, how long will this voting thing be in affect before you make a decision?

GIMP does that automatically, too. I took the Hikaru picture and resized it to 100X100 and it went from 426 KB to 3.73 KB.crazydiamond wrote:I use Irfanview, and some other people on here do, too, because they suggested it to me. Well, with the poll being open all weekend and there being no negative response whatsoever, the aforementioned changes have been made. Avatars can now be 100x100 in max size and 10K in max filesize. Enjoy! ^_^

Dan is of teh awesomeness.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I was wondering if we can get another increase to the size of avatars? Not in terms of size, but filesize. Most forums allow signifigantly larger files as avatars.
Who, if anyone, would have any problems increasing the max filesize limit from 10 kb to say... 50 kb?
