Downtime this week

Post by MarioKnight » Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:52 pm

Basically, shit hit the fan this week. Copy and pasted from the updates page:
No update, just an explination and apology as to what has been going on all week. To make a long story short, it appears that somehow a Time Warner bill hasn't gotten paid and they cut off the digital cable and internet to my house. My housemate who pays all the bills deposited a few checks just before this happened, and has been waiting for them to clear so those funds can be used to pay the bill(s). However, as of today, for whatever reason those checks haven't been added in yet, so there is still no internet at my house. Since it doesn't look like it will be back anytime this weekend knowing our luck, I've taken measures to get phobos back online until we do get it back. My longtime friend Kev has very graciously let me keep phobos at his house until the situation gets squared away, so the site can be onine like it should be. It appears that everything is working correctly as I type this, which I'm happy to see. And on another positive note for this inconvience, at least I can get phobos moved anywhere without a problem which will make things very easy when it comes time for me to move from where I am now to whereever I'll end up being this spring.

Once again, I deeply apologize for this inconvience. I had no idea that anything like this would happen. Had I known that today we still wouldn't have the internet, I would've moved phobos a few days ago. This should not happen again (with the exception of power outages or cable lines going down of course) and I'm sorry this happened at all.

Hope everything gets worked out, and i'm glad SMU is back up ^^

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I was trying to get back onto SMU for the week.

Each day I was thinking if it had been properly closed down for some random reason :\.
Good job getting the site back up!!

Well, if it's any consolation for making everyone worry, I carried phobos from mine to his place with the cords and other shit in my bag in the rain, I can't use my computer since I needed the surge protector at Kev's more for phobos, and over all else, I am using dialup. I never thought the campus dialup server would ever be useful to me (you can still dial into it off campus), and I'm sure my laptop on dialup is getting the most use of this phone line in months probably.

Eh, something happened at somepoint, which caused phobos to be inaccessable for an unknown period of time to me. I wish I could explain it, but I don't know what happened since everything was setup just the way I had it last night, and Kev said that it should be working fine too since he didn't mess with any settings. A quick restart and everything phobos is working again. This is the part of being info science that sux, when shit like this happens and there's no logical reason that causes it. -_-;;;

It's okay. I'm just glad nothing went wrong like last time where we lost everything on the board and had to start over ^_^.

It's great to know the forums were back up, I was slightly worried. A friend and I sorta started to think SMU crashed and we might have to start the forums ALL over again ^^;;

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I also at first thought it was just my computer, but then it seemed other people were also having problems connecting to the SMU. So, I thought maybe the server crashed again. I started to get worried thinking something might have happened to you Dan-san, but I'm glad that you're ok and that nothing was lost. I hope you can get your Internet back soon.

o_0 <---me. Between the downtime, and my convention attendance, I was going through major SMU withdrawl. I'm glad it's back! And while this is a blanket statement that is probably inaccurate, it best expresses my feelings: All cable companies, in every capacity, suck.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I relieved, I was worried somebody had hacked the site or your server had got overloaded from too much traffic. I'm so glad to see the site and forums back up! Even though I don't post here much, I really enjoy reading everyone's discussions. ^-^

I was freaked too. I tried to go to SMU and I was like "WTF Where's SMU?!?" ^^;; But I'm glad it's back up :)

Looks like the same bs that happened hours after moving phobos happened sometime yesterday from what I've been able to determine. However, I wasn't in Oswego until early this morning to come home to the net and digital being back on. So phobos is now back home and all this shit is finally over.

Damn. Don't scare me like that again ^_^. I also thought it was another crash, but I don't care anymore. I'm just glad SMU is back.
