Meh (aka forums fixed)

Well, we learned this weekend that shit happens. I know most of you already know that, but this weekend it happened at a bad time. From what I can tell, at some point between me going to work Friday morning and 5 - 10 minutes ago, there was an error with the MySQL database. This error is more of a common error, something pretty much expected to happen in a great while. It's also very easy to fix, and I fixed it on sight. However, the part that sucked about this error was it came in a weekend where I don't touch my computer, therefore for an unknown amount of time, the forums didn't work at all. I apologize for this unexpected downtime, I thought it would be safe to not have to use a computer for a few days to enjoy a great Harborfest weekend but I guess this wasn't the case. It appears that no data was lost, so that's some good news. Sorry for this major inconvience this weekend.

It's nice to see the forums back up. The forums had been down literally all weekend. I tried going on yesterday afternoon and through out this evening, and I didn't see them back up until just a while ago. Thanks for fixing the error on the forums!

EDIT: I know this stems OT a bit, but just out of curiosity, what exactly happens when you get banned? Can you still view the forums? Is posting simply disabled? I'm not about to do something stupid, just to see what it's like to get banned ^_^

That's okay, don't worry ^_^. I think it was only out for less than 24 hours (I was on when it happened). I didn't think it was a big deal and new you'd get it fixed ASAP.

Don't worry, I don't think it was offline much either.

I was just worried that the forum had got hacked or something, that would of been a shame. I relieved it was just a simple error, thank you very much for fixing it.

OT: I can answer that ^^;; Whenever you go on the main page of the forums, or any other page for that matter, it says "You have been banned from the forums" in a blue message box like the ones that say "You have marked all topics read." You cannot view any bit of the forums except the banner and the upper part that has the calendar, rules, member list etc. but to my knowledge those will not work for you, you will just get the banned message. The only thing is you never know how long you are banned unless you Email or Instant Message one of the mods or another member.

Interesting. The forums probably got back up before I actually went on again, so my timing is probably off (just a little, heh). It's nice to see that no info was lost. Like the others said, don't worry about it! Even if the forums do mess up again, you should take some time for yourself, and don't stress! Everything can get fixed later!

At first I thought you might of not paid for the site this month or something lol but I knew you wouldn't of let something like that happen. I had the same idea that it might of been hacked or something but really who would hack a forum...someone who hates anything to do with Sailor Moon or something. But anyways good job in getting the forum back up!

RoastedTwinkles is right, take time for yourself! From my knowledge, it was only down for about a day or so. (I was on the night before they crashed, and then the next day they crashed, then that night they were up again) I wasn't worried so much about a hacker as I was that the forums completely crashed AGAIN and we would have to start all over with account creation and that.

Well today was interesting. I came home to the cable out (clock was off on the cable box) and the landlord came with someone to fix some circuits. So I dunno how long the cable was out, and not helping was the cpu side of my room was going on and off during the repairs. Also, there wasn't a keyboard hooked into phpbos during those so it didn't start up until I realized it, oy. Very crazy. @_@ But it's all up now, though my PC seems to have problems I'll play with after Smackdown and after I finish my homework due tonight. So if the site was down for any time today, there's why.

To address some of the other posts in here, there is no monthly bill for this site ever since phobos was complete this past December. If there was and it didn't get paid, there wouldn't be anything in this entire domain working. I'm glad to hear that the forums weren't down long for Harborfest weekend and that they were down at most a few hours today, but I doubt that. At least all of this was simple stuff, some server error on the 4th of July weekend had me scared shitless but was taken care of without a hitch. Hopefully all this stuff is over with now, no reason for it not to be.

Dammit, Dan, this has got to stop. First the easily fixable SQL problem, and now this. I'm starting to question whether or not you really care about this site or us.

Nah, I'm just messin with ya! Isn't it weird though how problems always pile on each other?

And in all seriousness, thanks for keeping us up to date when the site has problems. You don't have to do that for us, but it makes us feel special. XD
