Linking the board

I'm an active poster on several other message boards, and I want on each to link to all the others, including SMU, in my signatures. Is it OK to use a button that sends people directly to these forums or should I only link to the main site? Also, since other boards allow images, can I make my own link images or use the forum banner (not direct linked, to be sure!) as a button, or should I restrict myself to the ones on the links page? If I can use non-standard buttons, then for those banners made for the contests, I'm also asking permission of the creators.

I personally dno't mind if you link to the main page of the forums...Although that COULD cause some problems, becuase I'd prefer people actually LOOK at SMU before just joining the forums, as I get rather tired of "YOUR BANNER SAYS UNCENSORED. WHY CAN'T I SA YWHAT I WANT?!". I want them to understand what we do here.

How about perhaps putting a link to BOTH, and maybe putting something like "After visiting SMU, take a look at their forums!" At least that way, people are given the opportunity to do so.

As for graphics, if you wanna make some little buttons or something, go for it.

OK, what I'll probably do is head it with something like "These are sites whose forums I am a part of." and just link to the main site.

I agree with Tiff, while the forums are a nice part of site, the forums aren't the focus of the site, so I'd like people to see the main site, and from there they can decide to enter the forums.
