Geneon's Final Sailor Moon S Signature Series Announcement

While ADV loses the ability to release any Sailor Moon products at the end of the month, Geneon makes as much use of their Sailor Moon contract as they can by making two announcements late yesterday evening.

The first announcement is pretty much expected. Sailor Moon S: Heart Collection VI will have its Signature Series release on July 13, 2004, for $19.98 MSRP. Same ol, same ol....

But here's something nice they announced. One week before that date, on July 6, 2004, they will release the Sailor Moon S Thin Pack DVD Box Set for $99.98 MSRP. This set will contain the discs, each now stored in a thinpack with all 6 volumes stored in a box. When asked if the covers for the thinpacks would be reversable, Geneon stated that the reversable covers would be exclusive to the orginal release in 2001, however, the thinpacks will NOT have the ugly read Signature Series bars. That's all that's known for now, and I'm very happy to see a box for the third season to be released.

Alright, I have time to save for this one ^_^ But I had bought 2 volumes from S already...but I want them all O_O Screw it, I will get the box. ^^

I don't understand the thin pack thing. So, their not the size of DVD cases they have? Do they flop open and not click when they are closed?

Thinpaks have about half the spine width of normal DVD cases, and take up a lot less shelf space, and yes they do click shut. If you have and/or seen the Family Guy and Futruama boxes, those are boxes with thinpak cases inside. Thinpaks have been coming slightly more popular among DVD consumers where a lot are buying thinpak cases to convert their collections into thinpaks to be able to stuff a lot more stuff on their shelves. So the SMS Box will be about the same size as the SM Movie box, with 6 thinpaks instead of 3 normal-sized cases. I hope that somewhat answers your question. ^^;

Aw, crap.

And here I bought all of SMS, and SMSS.

Why couldn't it be the normal size? That way, I can put my old DVDs in there, and 'return' the DVDs in the box to some video store. (Like what I did for the Sailor Moon Movies)

Ah well, maybe I'll just the thin pak and sell my DVDs or something.

Well, the way I see it, each flavor of the release has benefits that the other doesn't have.

The original 2001 run has the reversable covers with the shiny foil on the front covers.

The Signature Series has the lower price for people who don't care about the nice covers or boxes.

The box has a box to hold all the DVDs in thinpaks.

So people like us who got the original releases really didn't wait around for a choice, but for those who waited, they now have a choice of what they want to do.

Well I don't have the Futurama or Family Guy boxes, but I do have season 1 2 and 3 of The simpsons. I think those are thin pack-ish? But I understand now ^_^ Good, less space makes me happy. I can just keep the 2 DVDs I have. For they have reversable covers, and the last DVD has Saturn on it *drools*

-_- I wish they did that 2 years ago... coulda saved myself a fair bit of money...

I'm hoping they do one for SS, too, because that would be enough incentive for me to finally get the whole series (I have volumes 1 and 2)...

Glad I didn't buy any of S now. ^^;

Interestingly enough, though, volumes 1 and 2 of SS are the only volumes I DON'T own. Weird..

lol, i'm the same. Thats good i didn't buy SMS but i decided to buy SMSS since i didn't watch that series on FOX KIDS. I've just got 2 more volumes on SMSS to buy and i'm hopefully my boxsets will arrive this week!.

This is great news! The S season has always been my all-time favorite season of Sailor Moon, so it's great that Geneon is going to be releasing a boxset for it! I still would've liked to know if they're going to lose their rights to Sailor Moon or not, but I guess we'll find out sooner or later. I'd really love to buy this boxset, but I already have almost half of the S season burned onto VCD. *shrugs*

there's really no point in buying the S box because I already have 5 out of the 6 original 2001 releases. The store I usually go to buy my anime still has some of the 2001 releases left. If a box is released for SS, I'll buy it, but I'm in no real rush to buy it because I didn't like that season very much in the first place.

Squeee! That's so pretty! I'm glad I only own one of the S DVDs now, because I'm gonna get a new shiny version come July ^_^

Let's just hope it's not "Subject to change", as the warning in the corner suggests, but that Geneon will use that for their final product. As everyone's said, this is a nice boxed set, and I can't wait to pick it up and add to our collection.
