You know, once again I say Toei doesn't give a damn about the American audiences for their shows...
"Tell my tale to those who ask... tell it truthfully, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence..." last words of Dinobot, "Code of Hero"
"Is that a poisonous elephant in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" ~another forum
"Monster! I''''m going to collide with you indefinitely as my limbs flail wildly about!" ~NPC, Dragon Warrior VII
"I bet you were thinking how hot it would be to see Tsunade with her gates wide open, inviting you..." ~DuneMan
"To use gaming terms, Tyrannosaurus Rex was a camper--- and he pwned his prey!" ~BaronVonAwesome
"I prefer to beat my opponents the old-fashioned way: brutally!" ~Dinobot

Yeah, hearing about many of Toei's "restrictions," supplies, and what not I get the feeling that they are a VERY difficult company to work with! Kind of like Disney, which is ironic since since a couple people have called Toei the Disney of Japan (In terms of producing shows that a crap load of money).

Deep Discount Removes Boxsets from Site From Monday US time?

Post by mimet-star » Tue Mar 16, 2004 2:41 pm

I just went to see how my order was going and i saw that DDD has actually taken off the sailor moon boxset orders, possibly because they were flooded with so many orders or they were told by ADV to take them off.

I just hope all of us people who actually ordered them don't get an email saying "Your order was cancelled, because the item is discontinued", So those who didn't order yet have missed out!!!

I don't see what all the ADV hate is for but whatever. Watch Geneon lose S and SS next. Then no Sailor Moon in the US. Woohoo! That will make everyone happy right?

Maybe Toei will release it here. :) That would be great. :) You know how highly they think of US SM fans. :)

This is nothing but a reDiCulous (hehe) power grab by Toei. I bet the US sets were being imported in droves by japanese fans thus boning Toei...haha! Damage is done on both sides so now what? :?:

Considering as inferior as the R1 set is as opposed to R2, and most Japanese probably don't know about the clearence prices, I find that highly unlikely.

Though you reminded me of something, there is one good thing about this, the end of DiC Sailor Moon. Once April 1 hits, DiC SM will be no more. Gone, finito, history. No more DVD, no more VHS, no more TV. The only place you can find it is in the DVD collections of the suckers who bought the damned things. If only I could rub that in SOS's faces.

Speaking of which, it's amazing they've yet to react to this news... I wonder if there's anyone left over there...

... or maybe their heads imploded because they have realized their beloved DiC edition is coming to an end. :D

{Edit}

I speak a little top soon, they'd done a stealth post about it. And as expected, SOS demonstrates its idiocy once again.
SOS's scrolling Marque wrote:(Tokyo, Japan) Although Toei will not confirm it, there appears to be no significant foreign sales for their live action version.
NO SHIT!

Anyway, I'd wonder what sources they rely on? I'm betting it's a Magic 8 Ball.
This may make it possible for SailorStars to get dubbed. We're going to ask around to see if there are any networks or distributors interested.
LOGIC TRAIN!!!!

ding DING DING Ding Ding ding ding din din ...
We believe that Toei Animation of Japan is letting all U.S. licenses expire in order to promote their live action version of Sailormoon.
That is... tpo stupid for me to even comment on.
Oh wait... I just did...
nevermind
DiC's license expired in March, ADV's in April (visit their website) and The Program Exchange in June (see below on this page). (Pioneer's will expire as well.) We are working on this story and hope to post it in April.
I eargerly await. I'd love to see what moronic logic or idiotic procotts they come up with. You know full well it will out-stupify anything they've ever done in the past.

If I didn't send in my R #6 DVD to get fixed (AKA the english audio on the dvd) would I still be able to after they loose rights, or am I stuck with Serena's laughter forever if I don't hurry up and send it in?

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I'll bite. The ADV hate stems from the fact that ADV basically did a very shitty job with their Sailor Moon contract. Their product was crap, their methods of responding to and handling some of the issues were generally poor (the only positive being the SMR disc 5 exchange), and all to only have the products to not even technically exist anymore three-quarters of a year later. Instead of trying to do their best to please the fans with the time they had, they managed to really piss a lot of people off. I am all for supporting R1 DVD releases when a show is licensed for release over here, but the company releasing the show has to give me something to make my money worth it, and the $100 - $150 price range for each box when they were released was simply not worth it.

Now you comment for us to watch Geneon lose their license. Geneon themselves have already stated that they will probably eventually lose the license at some point (not said pubically) and are trying to extend the contract, but is having trouble doing so. The difference between how ADV handled their contract and how Geneon is handling theirs is huge. Geneon has already stated that their contract might run out, but instead of giving the fans a crap release, they're working to get the series out in cheaper ways and even a complete set of the third season. They are giving us a good product (not perfect, as in worth the money) cheaper than before, making it even more worth the money than back in 2001. They are doing their best to please us fans and help us save money as well, while ADV handed us shit just to get a product out.

It can be argued that maybe ADV would've done a better job if they had more time, but I personally doubt this. Series' that they produced in the same timeframe as Sailor Moon not only had a sub track, but a dub track and an overall better quality of discs. This is why all the "ADV hate" as you put it. I'm very glad that they lose their license at the end of the month and hope that if Toei does decide to bring Sailor Moon back to the states, that ADV won't touch it.

I'd be willing to bet that you'll be stuck with the bad disc if you don't hurry up.

Not much longer now. Today's the last day, ADV.

Then....BAM! Bye-bye, rights! And bye-bye, DiC! *dances for joy*

...this really has zero to do with this thread. This is not a discussion about whether or not you like the dub. This is a discussion about ADV losing it's rights. Please read the entire thread before posting.

The dub just plain doesn't exist anymore. While yes, it is still airing in syndication via Program Exchange, by the end of June (if I remember correctly) it no longer will be as that's when the Program Exchange contract runs out, and they can't really renew a product that no longer exists.

Sorry this is majorly off topic, but...
Well, I live in Canada, so here's what happened:

Sometime around May last year, YTV was airing SS, and then suddenly they started airing random episodes from classic and R. Then they started from the first episode again and they aired classic and r over and over again. Like Dan replied to my question about it a while back, that was probably because YTV lost its syndication rights. Soon, around Novemberish I think, they stopped airing Sailormoon all together. It has not aired here since then and it's not even listed on YTV's site anymore.

This thing with ADV affects us Canadians, just like Americans. Once Sailormoon is gone, it's gone for good.

I wouldn't say gone for good... Maybe gone for about five or ten years, but not gone for good.

That is, at least dub-wise. Who knows in five or ten, someone will get the licence, redub the series (all of it), and release it with the remastered edition. And we'd all be suckered into getting it.

the only way i currently see a new company getting the rights to an english dub is if pgsm does really bad and toei realizes what a dumb thing they have done.

And PGSM has anything to do with the anime, how?
