Ep 7: "(5 seconds) After the Usagi/Mamoru encounter, the scene cuts back to the talent show. We see two girls telling a joke on stage. What you don't see is one girl holding up a pair of red polkadot panties to illustrate their joke.....Not that dub watchers would care since the dub joke was TOTALLY different than the original. "

Translations are in brackets []
Note: tsu = two

Original: Yesterday, I went to buy two loaves of bread [pan]. Then they suddenly gave me strawberry-patterned panties [pantsu]. Two loaves of of bread is "pan-two" [panties]!

Dub: "Do you know why elephants wear green sneakers?" "No, why?" "It's so they can sneak around in the grass!"

Also...on episode 9 where the fat lady is choking the bus driver, part of Usagi's odangos keep disappearing and reappearing.

In addition, Episode 7-12's screenshots (going by the # of eps on the DVDs, 6) are finished.

EDIT: Episodes 13-18 are now finished. Now to complete 19-26...

EDIT 2: And I'm finished with all 26 episodes. I just have to convert them now...

Sorry for the TRIPLE post(ing), but I noticed that I forgot to go back and do the dub pictures (visible scene alterations, etc). I'm finished with those now, and I'm going to be giving them to Dan soon. Hopefully he can get them up quickly. I captured 598 pictures from Episodes 1 to 26, detailing differences between the original version and the dub version.

Also, something I noticed while doing the eps:

Episode 23: "(3 seconds) The scene of the youma attacking Nephrite is cut short by a couple seconds. "

This cut is where the youma's horns turn into drills.

If all goes well, these screencaps should be up on the site itself before I go to bed. I have a bit of a loaded day off today, and depending if this one thing does or doesn't happen, I should be able to add these in to the site without much problem. Thank you very much for getting all these caps for me. ^_^

Something which annoyed me in the dub of Ep 26 and which wasn't mentioned in the comparison was Dic's apparant phobia of admitting the priest was...well a priest. He was refered to as 'a man' if I remember. I don't know if it's really an important point or if I'm remembering correctly, but it bugged me.

Slightly OT, but worth a mention

Also, I'll have those caps for the movies up probably after work today. I was planning to get them done at some point yesterday, but my day kinda flipped around on me a bunch of times so I got nothing done I had planned to.

I'd rather take bad audio than poor video with subtitles you can't turn off with bad romanization anyday of the week (i.e. VKLL's fansubs).

The only advantages to the fansubs of Sailor Moon is that they kept in the next episode previews and have slightly better audio quality (in exchange for a mediocre picture).

"Shittiest boxset in history" seems a bit extreme; I refuse to believe that just because ADV got stiffed on the masters means that we have to piss all over this product. Or have we forgotten that DiC released the "Doom Tree Saga" as a 4-tape box-set a good while back?

Heh, heh, names.

I have a question about how you figure out the percentages. Do you take into consideration the cuts, scene alterations, SDAs, and other changes, or is the percentage just based on the cuts. Just something I've been curious about for awhile.

Oh, okay thanks. I ask because some uncensored sites look like they do it a different way, like they only take cuts into consideration and not the dialogue.

This would've made sense if Zoicite was talking in the third person and telling the youma to get the Black Crystal from her (since he's a she now), and he did attack her, so maybe Zoicite wanted to be attacked? Or maybe someone at DiC just wasn't paying attention. Pity too, they did a great job with the script until this oversight. "

Bob's (?) explaination here isn't really correct, because she says it AFTER the youma attacks her. Because the youma attacks Mercury after she says it, it could have gone like this: Writers accidentally confuse the Rainbow Crystals with the Black Crystal, so they're saying that Mercury has the Black Crystal (when infact she has the Rainbow Crystal) and tells the youma to recover the Black Crystal (see my post about this earlier in the topic for other wording). Here's that post I made involving this:

"Oh, one thing I found on #27 "Love for Ami?! A Boy Who Can Predict the Future" / #23 "Mercury's Mental Match" ...

(Urawa has just attacked Zoisite as a youma, and Zoisite is blasting him with the rays again)
Zoisite: Now! Recover the Black Crystal from her!
Urawa: BAMMBOOOOOOOOOOO

If you notice, Zoisite says Mercury has the BLACK CRYSTAL, when infact Mercury has the Rainbow Crystal, and Zoisite herself has the Black Crystal ^_^"

BTW, I have Episodes 45/46 screencaps on my computer (as well as Episode 42) ready to give to you when you want them. If you're wondering how I did Ep 45 and 46 already, I used the Japanese DVDs for J 45/46, and a dub AVI ep I downloaded for dub ep 40, and screen-capped the changes =D

And completely offtopic for here, but I'll say it anyway because it made me laugh: While I was watching my SuperS DVDs from the SuperS box by Geneon/Pioneer, I was on Disc 2, and that disc has a Karaoke Opening. Anyway, instead of making a new karaoke opening audio track for SuperS, they decided to use the one they had already made from S. How do I know this? Because the SFX made when the words "Sailor Moon S" are formed in the S opening were played (as well as the heart crystal sounds), and not the SFX from SuperS. They also did this for the regular lyrical track! Lazyness at it's funniest!

While the script as a whole was pretty bad though kept the original meaning, the same can't be said for Mamoru and Motoki's conversation. This was changed around very badly, yet they somehow got it to work with the video footage.

If you don't mind me asking, what was changed? I've heard that this scene was changed a bit, but I've never found a site that explains what exactly was changed ^^;

From what I can remember (and correct me if I'm wrong, Dan), I believe in the dub, Andrew's asking Darien if those girls that hang aroundh im (Serena and Raye) are his girlfriends, and somehow the subject of karate gets brought up..and a little chibi of Raye pops up,and she goes "BEAT HIM ALL THREE TIMES! *WINK*"

In the original, I think the chibi of Rei remains silent, and I dno't remember if karate is even MENTIONED. I don't think it is.

I just watched the sub not too long ago, and no, I don't believe karate was ever mentioned in it. And I think the DiC dub had done that once before with Rei's character, tried to turn her into a karate student.
