I always thought Nobel Gundam looked more like Sailor V. Though the Sailor Moon reference is obvious.

In the G Gundam manga, Allenby actually does the "I'll Punish You!" pose, and upgrades Nobel Gundam to Super Nobel Gundam (which does looks like Super Sailor Moon).

You should try out Cutie Honey. It's a great 70's magical girl anime, which (IMO) heavily influenced Sailor Moon.

And try out the 1997 remake Cutey Honey Flash too. It's a shoujo remake of Cutie Honey, and most of the staff worked on Sailor Stars.

Anyway, I saw the preview scene on the DVD, and it appears that it's going to be some sort of a prequel. As to what will actually happen, I don't know. Prequel?? I thought the T. Eh, never really cared for anime Mamoru. In the first season he was a complete asshole. Always making fun of Usagi, putting her down, insulting her friends, etc. He was a total jerk.
