At first I thought it was going to stay pretty twee, until Hisoka started killing. That change of pace was the hook for me. The later, York Shin City arc is the darkest in my opinion as G.I. is too bright and cheery (with a horrific first opening sequence!)

My favorite out of Schwartz has to be Farfarello. Incredibly twisted, insane and (for some reason) Irish. Shuldich is deliciously evil as well but his voice is far too nasal.

Something which annoyed me in the dub of Ep 26 and which wasn't mentioned in the comparison was Dic's apparant phobia of admitting the priest was...well a priest. I'd have to say I'm torn between Muraki and Hisoka (not 'Yami no Matsuei' Hisoka, but 'Hunter X Hunter' Hisoka). Both are very twisted and scarily likeable.
