o.O For most of my post, I'm speaking purely in the legal sense. A teenager having sex with an 18 year old doesn't automatically equal statutory rape.

I don't particularily get what your response has to do with mine...I wasn't even talking about marriage. I guess you're saying in response to my comment about teens having sex?

I'm quite aware it depends on individual beliefs so...again...I'm not sure whether you're agreeing or arguing or both ^^;

Actually, in Michigan... if you are 18 and you have sex with a 16 year old, it is satutory rape.

I don't know why, it just is. The laws are really, really wierd. Technically, the age of consent in MI is 16, but you can only have sex with other 16 year olds or 17 year olds. If you're seventeen, you can only have sex with 16 year olds or other 17 year olds. I don't get it at all, but that's how it is set up. -__-;
I know because one of the pedophile teachers at my school beat that into us. ... we know that he only knows because he doesn't want to get arrested.

Aside from that, if two people are over the age of consent, and want to, they have every legal right. My personal thoughts may differ, but that's how the law is set up, and that's how our culture is.

Personaly, I'm waiting until I'm out of college to get married, and therefore to have sex.
Only in some states. A lot of states' ages of consent are 16 and up. So...no, it's not statutory rape unless they fall under that particular state's age of consent.

You might want to educate yourself more on this subject. http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm As you can see, a lot of states start their age of consent around 16/17..hell, even 15.

I mean, honestly...if an 18 year old and a 16 year old are both in high school and dating, there's absolutely nothing dirty or wrong about them having safe, protected sex. It's not as though we're talking about a 60 year old man preying on 16 year old girls, here. A 16 year old and an 18 year old are relatively similar in terms of maturity.
I'm sorry if I wasn't completely clear. When I say 16 year olds in general (or somewhere around that age), I'm usually refering to friends of mine (who live in Ohio). I should have been more specific. I'm just kinda touchy on this subject since one of my 15 year old friends had sex with a 22 year old, and...just...no. It didn't turn out well at all. I know that's not what you were talking about, I'm just explaining my thought processes.

It's the same here in Louisiana. It's called statutory rape because while 16 may be the age of consent, you are legally considered an adult at 18. By the time you reach the age of 18, you're supposed to be a bit more mature and know better than to sleep with someone who is still considered a child. (We all know it doesn't tend to work that way, though. My 16-year-old sister is more mature than some of the people I work with who are twice her age.)

Which is why I think the whole statutory rape thing is ridiculous in some cases. An 18 year old shouldn't go to jail because he slept with a 17 year old that may sit next to him in his senior math class. Never mind that a lot of times girls lie about their ages, and teenagers are looking older and older each day. Hell, I see some 13 year olds that look like they should be almost finished with high school.

Obvious pedophilia is one thing, but two teens going at it and calling it "rape" when they both consent? Ridiculous.

It is, there was something about the age of consent on 20/20 a while back. There was this one story with teenagers that slept together, the girl's parents found out and reported the guy to police and now he's a registered sex offender and it's really screwed up his life.

just to clear up what I said about marriage I was saying that most people think sex without marriage is bad and the includes teen sex.

Like I said I agree with what you said about it that there is nothing wrong with it as long as both parties are willing and protected, but I know that we are in the minority with that thinking. Its sad really :(

1) What do you think of pornography ?

Eh, not such a big thing to me. I rarely watch porn anyway.

2) What do you think about sex in general ?

I never had it before, so I can't comment on that. I do have solo sex, though. I'm probably just waiting for the right woman to have sex with. I don't want to end up like my younger brother & my younger cousin who each have 3 children already (My brother is turning 24 next Monday, & my younger cousin is about 20 or 21).

3) Do you think sex is for all ages ?

I certainly don't. Most of them don't have the sense to understand what the consequences are.

Fully agree with you. I believe that the laws in this country need to be changed based on that.

I despise when people can't have responsible sex. You don't want a kid? Use birth control. There are certainly enough kinds. You don't want an STD? Use a fucking condom, or know who you're fucking. I have no sympathy for people who sleep around, then end up pregnant or with an STD because they were too stupid to do anything beforehand.

Exactly. Especially to thousands of Girls & Women out here in this country that are constantly having unprotected sex with so many men, get knocked up, the baby is born, & then they can't find out who the child's father is, all because she can't get enough of it. It's not the man's fault, & it's certainly not the child's fault, it's the girl's (woman's) fault. They're the ones who put themselves in that position. I've seen that on a lot of talk shows & judge shows lately.

Even condoms & Birth control aren't a 100% guarantee to prevent pregnancy &/or STD's. Neither is getting yourself fixed in general. The only 100% to prevent both of those things is abstinence.

Eh, don't twist my words, please. It is the responsbility of BOTH sexes to prevent an unwanted baby or an STD. If a man doesn't want to knock a woman up, then why can't he make sure he wraps it up? The same goes for a woman. If you plan on sleeping around, which is entirely an individual's decision, then use birth control, or keep condoms in your purse. Blaming the woman entirely is a little extreme and absolves the other half of any blame or responsbility whatsoever. Stating she "put herself in that position"...excuse me? What about men who sleep around? Are they not supposed to practice responsbility and safety as well?
