I think, pretty much, anything written about Sailor Moon will be cliched. One person will write one thing, someone will read it and think "that's a good idea, let's see if I can write something like that but better (different but not really, change the characters around a little)".

I really don't mind it as long as it is well written.

I've also seen more than enough "Usagi-and-Mamoru-never-get-together-and-she-marries-Seiya" plot, too. As much as I like Seiya and the whole unrequited love thing with usagi, that's just a big annoyance to me (then again, I'm not fond of things that aren't canon).
*Nods* I agree, although I have no major ships in the series, I do like Usagi and Mamoru together, and although it's not a shipping of mine I usually stay away from Usagi/Seiya fics.

And I never really liked Seiya, because of the way they protrayed him/her in the anime. The Generals and the Senshi becoming items not my cup of tea either (usually if the Senshi kick poor Usagi out of the team they usually find her and help her out. I've seen a couple of fanfics like that on FF.net).

laffinizluv: I agree with you, the whole idea of the Senshi dating each other drivings me nuts. It's not that I have a problem with people loving the same sex, it's just that when Usagi and Mamoru are the only
straight couple in the fanfic. *sigh*

And "Ranma because he/she can turn into a girl with a splash of cold water, I should have her become a Sailor Senshi." While I love Ranma 1/2 most of the time they have him/her become Sailor Earth or what have you.

Yes Vampire Usagi/Mamoru, watching way too much Buffy I think?

But there was one fanfic that really surprised me not because of the content of the fanfic itself (to be honest the reason why I clicked on it was because the fanfic overall sounded very interesting to me), which I found while surfing Fanfiction.net had Haruka while not in Senshi form a male and while in Senshi form a female. It really blew me away, I didn't read it because of that situation.

In regards to Sailor Earth, I know that Naoko herself (or is my brain being fuzzy?) stated that Mamoru was basically the "Senshi" of the Earth, and being so, there was no need for a "Sailor Earth"? I wonder if there was some confusion on that point, or maybe people just love to fill the internet and fanfic sites with their versions of Sailor Earth, Sun, Terra and so forth. And I know that I will never create a Senshi with the above titles.

Now I must go and wrap my Dad's and brothers b-day gifts which I have been putting off for the past two weeks. LOL

It's not just that Takeuchi-sensei said it herself, it's also all but explicitly pointed out in the series overall. Endymion is the guardian (or senshi, if you want to call it that) of Earth, but she did say in her own words that he was not a Sailor Soldier. With all the other Sailor Soldiers in the Solar System protecting Earth, there was no need to make him a Sailor, too. He's merely the prince of Earth who falls in love with the Princess and Soldier of the Moon.

To get back on topic, one plot that I'm seeing a lot of lately (and I'm starting to get bored with) is different takes on how Mamoru and Usagi find out each others identities and that they are in love with each other. And it almost always happens in the middle of the first season.
Come join the party.

I haven't encountered this anywhere else, but a personal fanfiction website I frequent loves to write stories with the Sailor Senshi either being reverted to children or a futuristic setting where the Senshi are raising their own hordes of children...

His other story-lines, with the actual plot, are pretty good, so I continue reading... But then their is always some kind of pedo-loli-goodness sprinkled in their that you just can't miss...

I've read fanfics were the Senshi do have children, and I like it when the Senshi do have children something other than their usual Senshi duties.
But I've never read any fanfics, were they are changed to being children before. Interesting idea though.

I don't read fanfic anymore, but when I did I remember seeing a lot of people creating new villains and having their names end in -ite, even if the names weren't actually any kind of rock or mineral or whatever. It was like they decided to tack -ite onto the end of a bunch of gibberish, something like Coosalagoopagite, or Chumbawumbadite. Or maybe even Hermaphrodite, or Drinksprite! Ok, so I over exagerated those examples, but I think you get the point.

And of course I remember seeing plenty of Shitennou and Senshi pairings. Honestly, I don't have anything against it, except when people try to justify that it was meant to be that way. Personally, I think it's an interesting idea and I particularly enjoyed it in Sera Myu. But to each his own of course!

Fics that have all of the Senshi having kids at the same age. All the same age would mean same time of birth which would mean the Senshi had to "do the deed" with some guy pretty much the all in the same time frame. This fantastic display of reproduction is just too fantastic.
And fics where Chibiusa is really the offspring of Usagi and Seiya or Mamoru and Setsuna.......or even Rei and Makato. So lame.

While I do like this cliche (or is it even considered that? You be the judge.), after doing a Sailor Moon search on fanfiction.net I ended up stumbling into a fair bit of 'Makoto's Past' stories... There seems to be alot less trash from this particular story type also.

Fics that wreak of misogny.
Example: Alpha Male Darien or Diamond captures timid, defenseless Serena or some other girl on the show and tries to "seduce" her. This seduction turns out to be pretty much borderline rape by most standards.

Haven't these authors ever heard of feminism or Women's Rights?
Scary thing these authors are female.

..How is that entirely unlike what he actually tried to do? I JUST watched this scene on youtube the other day...hell, he downright holds her chin in place and tries to force her to kiss him. He undresses her, puts a new dress on her, and leaves her in a bed. What did you THINK he was going to do?

All I see is a bunch of writers exploring an alternate scenario, one that would have happened had Tuxedo Dumbass not shown up and saved her.

I don't think this reeks of misogyny at all.

Also, keep in mind that plenty of female writers explore the concept of rape and seduction as plot points. Some of us even indulge in rape fantasy when it comes to sex/pornography. It doesn't make us rapists or misogynists, especially since we aren't participating in it nor glorifying/promoting it as something awesome to do.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

She's talking about Prince Diamond, darling.
The Music of the Night and Tuxedo Mirage are what keep me from going completely INSANE! (right...)

I have seen it glorified, though. Quite frequently, in just about every fandom. The victim almost always falls in love with her attacker, and it's "totally okay" that he raped her, because he just loves her so much that he couldn't help himself. She was just asking for it by being so wonderful.

Rape fantasy and power-play being used as a plot deice is fine, but it gets kind of scary when you look at the huge number of fics like this. The fact that most of them are written by teenage girls doesn't make the situation any better.

I think the lack of balance is the biggest problem, though. You'd need a truck full of four leaf clovers and a backhoe to dig out a fic where the woman was the powerful, domineering one. That, to me, it what makes it all seem sexist.

Oh, I agree that there are cases where that happens. And that's the kind of rape fantasy I don't indulge in. I think that IS pretty low, sure.

Eh, see I don't see it that way. A lot of girls have the kind of struggle, control, and submission. Rape fantasy is an easy way to explore and portray that. But because it's somehow considered "wrong" for a woman to want to indulge in these things, they tend to keep it on the downlow. They shouldn't be ashamed to indulge in that kind of play.

Now, I do agree that there seem to be less stories where the woman is the domineering one, but...I'm not sure i'd label it as sexist. Perhaps there just aren't as many girls out there who want ot indulge in that fantasy. Hell, I know I even tried it, and I don't like it, which is amusing because my personality is aggressive and powerful =P

Either way, my point is just that these writers shouldn't be made to feel ashamed for taking a plot point that's ALREADY got seduction/rape undertones, and turning it into a story about said seduction/rape.
