2006 Summer Banner Contest!

It's time for the 2006 Summer Banner Challenge! =D

For the banners displayed through June, July, and August, I want each month to have its own theme. This is extra challenging if you wish to submit a banner for each theme.

Each theme is listed below:

June: Vacation. This can be anything that depicts the senshi on some sort of specific vacation (at the beach, camping, etc) or on summer vacation in general (lounging at a picnic, eating ice cream with friends, etc)

July: Patriotic. The colors Red, White, and Blue should be incorporated, and creativity is a must to create a scene that looks patriotic/fourth-of-july-ish.

August: Back to school. The use of teachers, school scenes, school uniform images, etc should be used here.

Rules are below:

1) You may submit two banners per theme. You do not have to submit one for every theme, but you cannot exceed two per theme.

2) It can be either from manga, PGSM, or anime.

NOTE: ALL PICTURES MUST BE TASTEFUL. No pictures depicting gratuitous nudity or sexual poses, please. If you wish to display TASTEFUL and slight nudity, show the picture to me first and I will either okay it or refuse it. Obviously, complete nudity is not allowed.

2) Banner must be 300 x 137 in size and in GIF or JPG format.

3) If you use someone's fanart, you MUST have their permission first, and if they want credit, you MUST credit them somewhere on the banner.

4) The banner needs to say "Sailor Moon Uncensored Forums" and have the url, "http://www.smuncensored.com" on it. This must be done in a readable font (this includes size, style, and color)

5) In order to enter, you must have been a member for at least two weeks and an ACTIVE POSTER AS OF TODAY. Anyone who joins the forums after this is NOT ELIGIBLE. This isn't to be mean, but I don't want people joining just for the contest, and we have too many members who have never posted or have only posted once or twice. If you are unsure as to whether you qualify as an "active member", contact me.

6) Becuase there are three different themes, I'm only picking a 1st and 2nd place for every theme, meaning there will be two banners displayed in june, two in july, and two in august.

EDIT: I went ahead and chose third place for each month as well, since the turnout was nice. So I edited the dates to include 3rd place.

GUIDELINES:

1) Please try to use a picture of decent quality.
2) Please try to use a readable font. I cannot stress this enough.
3) GIMME A C! GIMME AN R! GIMME-fuck it. CREATIVITY.

THE DEADLINE IS SATURDAY, JUNE 3.

Prizes are as follows:

JUNE THEME:
1st: banner displayed June 4th-14th, avatar made by me.
2nd: banner displayed June 15th-21st, avatar made by me.
3rd: banner displayed June 22nd-30th, avatar made by me.

JULY THEME:
1st: banner displayd July 1st-12th, avatar made by me.
2nd: banner displayed July 13th-22nd, avatar made by me.
3rd: banner displayed July 23rd-31st, avatar made by me.

AUGUST THEME:
1st: banner displayed August 1st-12th, avatar made by me.
2nd: banner displayed 13th-23rd, avatar made by me.
3rd: banner displayed 24th-31st, avatar made by me.

I would like you to upload the banner to your webspace (if you have one) and paste the link here, so that everyone may view your creation. If you do not have webspace, email it to me, and I'll upload it for you. DO NOT POST THE IMAGE ITSELF HERE.

I am working on my entries, and hope to have some done by the end of the holiday. I HATE PHOTOSHOP. I'm getting Paint Shop as we speak.

Just in the cropping of BG images, Paint Shop gives you your starting position in pixels, and the dimensions of the box you're cropping. Photoshop does not, at least not without a display somewhere in the options I banged my head against the wall trying to find.

Anyway, here is my entry into the patriotic theme.

Summertime
The blue rippled backround is supposed to symbolize ocean water while the Senshi hang out at the beach. Changed the color of the backround Sailor Moon picture with a hue replacer, but the picture was already rippled for some reason.

Patriotic
Sailor Moon, literally as a Sailor, saluting infront of the American flag.

Back to School
The backround is of a random school, and the two vigenette pictures are of the Senshi's first school uniforms, and their latter school uniforms.
EDIT: I just NOW realized the Senshi are pretty much lined up the same way in both pictures... How symbolic? xD;

...Yeah, they all kinda suck. But I submitted them anyway because it hurts me to see Sailor Moon and Teh Tiffu cry... ;_;

Patriotic. It seems fitting that an all American superhero was made in Japan. Like our televisions. It looks kinda ghetto, but I got the general feeling I was looking for.

I don't know... is a close up of Sailor Moon's cleavage stretching the theme a little too much? XD;;

Vacation. The original picture of Rei was rather dingy, so I cleaned and brightened it quite a bit, and added a few highlights to Rei's skin to give her an under-the-sun shimmer.

The colors I added to the background looked horrible until I brightened Rei. So much so, I almost scrapped the project. I'm rather happy with the result, though.

I think I have an idea or two left, so I might enter more banners if I can come up with something.

I removed my July banner from the contest because it was too similar to Neon Heart's submission for that month. I wasn't comfortable with two similar banners so I withdrew my entry. I'll try to get a new entry up before the deadline. :D

Nah, it's okay. I'll just see it as an influence instead of copying. =P Plus it turned out a lot better than mine did anyway. =/
